Just for fun, whats the fastest you have gone in a boat? Back in my younger, and obviously stupider days, I ran 134 MPH in a blown gas Hondo picklefork. It was a rush I will never forget - seeing a glimmer a hundred yards out and wondering if was a log, but by the time you start the thought, it was under me! Obviously it was not a log... Holy Sh#$!!
It really was fun - soooo much FUN!!

Last summer some friends took me out in their SeaDoo jet boat with the two engine set up and we ran just shy of 70 - an inch off the water. It was way cool - I had forgotten what speed on the water feels like!

Any other people do anything that dumb and exciting?

Jim

You've got me beat by a long shot. But to be honest, I never thought I'd have this much fun at 8 kts.

I've been up to 75 in a Scarab...took a long time to get there though, boat seemed to accelerate slower tahn my twin 4 cylinder cruiser

My Jetski goes in the mid 60s however my son hit 73 he's a bit liter then my. It's a rush for sure. I can't imagine 134 that's more then twice my high.

My boat, 39 mph GPS speed. I was at about 3800 tp 3900 rpms.

The 7.4L has some kick! 2001 Bayliner 285

254 MPH Going from the Bridge to the head. I think it was the raw clams?

Hey Dave, didn't you break the sound barrier with one of your jetski's a year or so ago?

I refuse to mix speed with water! I even hated water skiing when I was younger. My boat stays on plane at 27 kts. Works for me!

ROTFLMAO... Very funny...

Speed: about 75 in the APBA sanctioned (IIRC) The Great Around The Cape Race, circa 1974? maybe?. Then, 2-years later in the Plymouth 160 in a 27' Magmun Sedan with speedmaster lower units. The boat flew; we knew nothing, especially that we could have gotten killed out there; my best friend tried and came close.

88Knots in a Fountain 42 lightning.
I’m sure Tugboat Kevin will blow us all away on this

What a kick! A jet ski at 70 is totally insane! My top speed right now is about 11 or 12, but I hardly ever "push" it THAT fast - usually more like 6 or 7! Funny how times change.

Any of you ever see Howard Arnesons turbine boat? I think there was a pic on one of the delta sites, maybe Lost Isle, but it is a maybe 25-27 foot tunnel hull with a full up turbine in it - I bet it runs close to 200. Years back when I had my race boat I met him and he gave me a tour of his boat racing factory in Marin (I think) and he showed me his then new 50 ft Cat with 4 big blocks through two surfacing drives - they had just clocked that 50' at over 120 under the Gate! That was 25 years back, now those big ocean boats runn nearly 200 regulary. Now thats MONEY.

Really nice bunch - boat racers. I lived in Phoenix for 12 years and was down the road from Firebird where they have the hot boat drag finals. about 12 years back I saw the record, standing start 1/4 run at 222 mph - the most amazing thing I have ever seen! I think they are pushing on 250 now - unbeleivable! If you ever get a chance to see them, you won't regret it - very memorable to see a boat that fast.

What a great hobby, this boating thing.

A buddy has a 38 foot Cigarette Top Gun. Twin 800hp. We went from Sandusky to Leamington in about 45 minutes on a Wed. night last summer. The Lake Erie guys will see the humor in this. The lake was like glass and didn't see another boat the entire trip. That was the first and last time I was on that boat. We averaged about 80mph, never been that fast prior to this evening and probably won't again. You can't talk, you can't hear anything but the wind, your eyes are watering, etc. My little cruiser runs just fine in the low 20's and we can carry on a conversation without screaming. I burn about 1/4 the fuel he does also, but I must say that I'm glad I did it once.

A friend had a 23' picklefork with 3-500hp Merc.s we would do about 130 mph. In the mid 1970's I raced this V Hull, in APBA races. It was a 14' Allison with a bored 75hp Johnson. Total weight with me in it was 846 lbs. I could get about 68 mph, it would just skip across the water, till it was time the turn. Holy!!!!!!!

520 knots at an altitude of about 40 feet. But I took off from a boat. Does that count?

My fastest was in a blown gas hydro at 112mph. I once flipped a V-drive flat bottom in the Meadows at about 75mph when I was young and foolish. That was long ago. I still like going a little fast but only when it's safe. I still have a Donzi 22 Classic that's a lot of fun to drive when it's a little choppy.

Rommer get your facts straight that was the fastest I went to the hospital on a Jetski.

Not my best day of boating. I wasn't even moving, my thumb still hurts.

You're one very lucky dude Dave!

Sorry to hear you are still having issues from that day.

I almost got run over by Arneson and his new 50 ft Cat with 4 big blocks through two surfacing drives way back in 1986. It was the first summer I had a boat [19 ft cuddy]. We had dropped anchor near a bend in the slu which goes by Guisti's to have some lunch and do a little fishing. He came around that blind bend throwing out flames, not expecting anyone to be there. Scared the sh*! out of all of us!!!! I learned to picked better places to drop the hook after that.
