When to change V-Drive and Trans Fluid.
I changed to engine oil when the engine oil was warm before the boat was pulled for winter storage. Normally you change engine oil when warm so the dirt and carbon particles are suspended in the oil. The question is I would like to change the transmission oil and v-drive oil before the boat is lunched for the summer. I would think metal particles and or other contamination would have settled to the bottom as it does have the same suspended carbon particles as engine oil. The units would be drained from the bottom. Does anyone see a major problem with this approach?
Also how often do people change the V-drive and transmission fluids? I have asked other boaters and it seems many go for years without a change?
Thanks,
Bruce
