My kids love playing around on sandy areas and I'm starting to identify the better areas. They're not so big on the muddy areas, and I can't blame them for that!

It took me three years to realize this (duh) but it's pretty clear that the more wooded and leafy and area is, the muddier the bottom is -- lots more bio mass. Long shoals and points tend to be sandy.

Magothy/Gibson is pretty good, as are the little islands in the Rhode River. I've not gone to Fairlee yet. Any others?

North side of Harte Miller Island is not bad...lots of weekend boaters there. They also have a guy who runs around in his dinghy taking food orders and such.

Run down the west shore to Flag Harbor. Nice marina that is well sheltered, has a pool and access to a real nice beach. You may also find fossil shark teeth on the beach. Herrington Harbor South also has a nice beach.

-Stillpond (the basin not the creek). It's directly off the Bay just before Churn Creek and adjacent to the Stillpond Creek entrance. Wonderful sandbar but it's always busy on weekends.

-Tims creek, at the entrance to Worton Creek. It's hard to find the entrance but sure looks inviting!

Fairlee Creek just behind the entrance channel. Nice sandy spit. The Bay side has a quick drop-off.

Just inside the mouth of La Trappe creek, on the north side of the Choptank.

To add to my own list, there's a great stretch of sand/rock beach on the north shore of the Choptank, BEFORE you reach La Trappe Creek (west of the Creek). There's a tidal marsh just in-shore and a tidal stream that fills/empties the marsh. The kids had a blast chasing fish and crabs.

After just leaving Flag Harbor this weekend, I second the vote for there...They recently dredged the channel to 8' and the people are just super.

small but very clean and pleasant
