WHERE TO GO ON THE GREAT SOUTH BAY

Another good food spot is Kingstons in Sayvile.
Tight getting in, but they used to serve you on your boat when crowded.
 
There's a small " hole in the wall " place in W/Babylon on the Bergen Point canal ( The Dockside Cafe )....thats a little tight gettin in on low....and has limited slips.....but they will serve you on your boat....and the food is eatable. We go there occasionaly when we have the dog with us.

Thats what's nice about the South Shore....just about every town has a waterfront resturant.

If you take the dink from Timber Point to the Riverview be careful. There are so many boats (especially ski boats and tubers)that are flying around all over the place between the 5 MPH pole and hairy island. Boats coming into the river at late afternoon will be looking almost directly into the sunset and it will be hard to see a dink with a low profile.

Garbage Cove and Hemlock are south of Amityville off the State Channel & east of Gilgo. That's the best I can do but I'm sure others will be able to tell you more!
 
Can you stay at Sore Thumb over night or is it just the day thing and how skinny is the water there (2'6" draft)

You can stay at the Sore Thumb overnight, not much to do there. It's usually a daytime destination. The coves and marinas off the south side of the State Channel between the Lindenhurst cut and Zach's Bay are better suited for overnighting(calm and sheltered). If you choose to stay at the Sore Thumb though, there's plenty of water and it's a great fishing spot.
 
Tequila Jacks - pricey but good, tip well at dock, east side is best
Flynns - good, dock charge with credit, let them dock your boat if going inside, outside you can dock but you will bounce.
Kismet - Good food, charge for dock with credit, inside is best
Many others.
 
Flynns? R we kidding? I used to threaten my kids if they weren't good I would make them eat at Flynns! Yuck yick crapo lousy service dump. Other than that it was great!

Mathews in ocean beach is nice. Sit at the bar eat drink and watch the sunset. My Fav! Kingstsons is nice. T Jack s is very good too.
But dont go to Flynns.

Its funny when I drink Stoly I'm not very opinionated. mmmmmmmmmm?
 
Maguires in Ocean Beach is a great place to go. The food is excellent and the view is great. Plus, after dinner there's lots to do right there in town.
 
I agree- Flynn's has gone WAY downhill over the last few years. I refuse to eat there. I use the voucher on drinks and eat at the Inn Between if I don't feel like going over to Ocean Beach. I've had very good and just OK meals at Maguires but it's decent for the most part.I'll be trying Mathews this year for first time. And yes Tequila Jacks is just a great place to eat, drink and hang out. About 6-8 more weeks before I splash, can't wait!!
 
Flynns, agree with others, you have been forewarned. Probably best two in OB are Maguires and Matthews. If you are further east Casino in Davis is pretty solid also.
