Where's the best place to anchor on Suisun Slough

Finally got my Magma Kettle grill mount for the boat. Im looking to take some friends out and find a quiet, protected place to anchor so I can cook some steaks, drink wine and hang out.

Im moored in Martinez and trying to find a nice place to anchor. Suisun Slough isnt far away and I recall seeing some fisherman anchored near a tree in Suisun slough about a year ago. Can anyone recommend the best place to anchor in Suisun Slough?
 
I've anchored near there several times. Except for a few stray water skiers, the anchorage was quiet and very beautiful! One spot is a little slough off of Montezuma Slough called Nurses Slough. I don't think Nurses Slough has a destination so there are no boats passing by except on Montezuma.

I've also anchored in Montezuma at Goat Island, a nature preserve. There will be a lot more traffic in Suisun Slough itself unless you can find a place to tuck in behind a berm, etc.

This time of year, that area is very quiet except for a few fisherman. Although I would stick to Montezuma Slough are as it is much wider, has less turns, and you are less likely to find yourself aground when the tide goes out.

Another possibility if the winds are calm is the area around Suisun Bay. On the East side of Ryer Island there is a secluded inlet where you can tuck into and tie off to shore. Approach slowly as there are some shallow areas at the inlet, but it is a really nice location with views of the whole bay. Also on the north end of Snag Island by a big tree there is another place to tie off to and drop an anchor off the stern. If you look on googlemaps you will see a boat just like yours anchored off the shore by the tree.

Even if the wind picks up, you're still sheltered enough in these locations that you won't have to worry too much.
 
I'll second the Suisun Cut-Off, Freeman and Snag Island area. We used to do exactly what you are talking about there, and once stayed the night on the hook near Dutton Landing. When you are tucked in there, you have good protection from many directions. There's some current, so get a good set, but the holding is good. Brings back some nice memories from 5 or 6 years ago.
