Window thingy - what is it?

Had my boat for three years; still haven't figured out what this thingy is for. There is one on each of the port and starboard salon windows. Is it for removing the window glass?

Without knowing which way is forward, I would guess they are stops for the sliders.
 
No they're for opening the windows. They do open you most likely will have to clean the tracks. They slide backwards.
 
I thought they might be stops too, but when fully open the sliders stop against their frames just before the thingies. The thingy shown in the photo is on the starboard salon window near its forward edge, so left in the photo is forward, right is aft. The thingy is about 2 inches in diameter and is on a threaded bolt that threads into an insert nut in the window glass.
 
I guarantee you that window opens. I have them on my 370 also, it is for sliding the forward window open without a screen.

Agreed. They are a knob/handle for you to grab to slide the window.
 
I think it opens them too. I have the same thing, but my tracks are gunked up and I can't really open them and didn't want to break it either.
 
Hard to see, but if the window looks fixed, maybe the prior owner sealed them up with dark caulk or some other sealant. Agreed, the knobs are to open the windows.
 
They are window sliders. I have a couple on my 3207 too. In fact, the heads of the bolts/screws on the outside of the windows have gotten rusty and unsightly so they're on my to-do list to change them out to stainless or chrome.
 
You're telling me those windows open?! Well I'll be... I'll try it next time I'm at the boat. Thanks! What's the best way to clean/lubricate the fuzzy tracks?
 
Had exact same thing/issue on my old 3207 aft. Had it for a year before I figured out that both windows slid open and the forward window(s) had been not used so often and locked into place.

I use ZEP mold killed find it at Home Depot, it also works well on the fuzzy carpet in our boats..
