Unfortunately we have to start planning on hauling out the end of this month. In preparation for winterizing the water and head I came across a "vent" line that I did not know existed and I am wondering if fellow Mariner owners can confirm my findings.
The vent line comes off the top of an inverted "U" fitting between the Sealand macerator pump and the thru hull fitting used for overboard discharge. It runs up to the bow and comes out next to the drain fitting for the starboard fender well.
I visited the Sealand website and do not see any schematics showing the vent line.
Thanks in advance for any information.

That inverted U would be called an anti-siphon valve.
I don't own a Carver but that's the part your talking about.

Good afternoon Bill I was wondering if you might know why this line would have an anti-siphon valve ? Do you think it might help with the discharge line draining completely after the macarator pump is turned off?

Yes it keeps the tank from draining by breaking the siphon if the through hull is left open. It also allow the waste pump to start easier because it doesn't have to fight as much head pressure.
The main reason is it should prevent a siphon effect if the hose were to break or the pump were to crack this could cause the boat to potentially sink.

Bill Thanks for your post.

I was discussing this vent line with a fellow boater and he had a situation you describe where he left the thru hull valve open and it drained his tank. He does not have a vent/anti-siphon line
All makes sense
Thanks again
