Winterizing A Sea Lander Vacu Flush

Any info on the procedure would be appreciated. Is there a source that I can read on the procedure.This is my first boat with a Vacu Flush. Maybe a sticky would be helpful for other owners.

From one of Dometic's Owner's Manuals:

At the end of each season, the SeaLand toilet should be winterized for storage, by either draining or using potable water-safe antifreeze in the system.

To drain:

1. Thoroughly flush system with fresh water.

2. Empty holding tank.

3. Shut off water supply to toilet(s), and remove inlet waterline from toilet. Do not remove brass cap on bottom of valve.

4. Press flush lever until all water is drained from toilet(s).

To use antifreeze:

1. Drain potable water tank.

2. Add freshwater antifreeze to potable water tank.

3. Flush potable water antifreeze and water mixture through toilet(s) and into the waste holding tank. Each installation is different, so amounts may vary. User discretion is required to assure adequate protection.

4. Empty holding tank.

NOTE: Use nontoxic antifreeze designated for potable water systems.

CAUTION: Never use automotive-type antifreeze in freshwater systems.
 
Vic, couldn't you just turn the water pump off and then drain the bowl? Why do you have to remove the inlet?
 
Mike, I've never actually winterized a VacuFlush myself, and I don't know all the fine points of doing it. So I simply passed along the recommendations from the manufacturer. My guess would be to make sure there is no water remaining in the hose, so that it can't freeze.
 
Last year I just emptied the holding tank, emptied the water tank, pumped pink through the water system and flushed the head until pink came through it. Then I poured 1 gallon into the head and flushed that into the holding tank.

We had a brutally cold winter last year, and my winterizing method worked just fine.
 
I do my friends vacuflush heads and entire water system with air. With air pressure in the system you just flush until all of the water it out and air is blowing into the bowl. Pour 2 gallons of pink in the bowl and flush. Done.
 
I guess I need to get an air compressor!
 
It's super quick and easy to winterize the whole boat with air, ice maker, washing machine etc, and I don't have to bypass the water heater either.

I do the air conditioners and salt water wash down pump too.
 
As a student of Robyn's Nest blow out school, I can ditto what he says. The savings in pink is nice, it's easy, quick and it works!

It takes a little bit of effort the first year as you assembly the bits and pieces needed to connect to the different points but save them all together in a bag and the following years are much simpler.
 
Less pink to haul around in the car and drag onto the boat the better.

I do the same, it works great!
Home depot has all the parts you need set up this time of the year to be used to blow out sprinkler systems
