An emergency situation does require unusual, and probably illegal, speed; but all the idiots speeding through no-wake zones can't be in emergency situations. They just don't give a damn. I remember seeing a bay constable sitting in a Whaler at the beginning of the east-bound, no-wake section of Moriches Bay, watching for anyone speeding and signaling boaters to slow done. Unfortunately, they can't be everywhere. We're on the Long Island Sound now, at New Rochelle. Too often boaters are speeding in the approaches to the coves and the marinas. Sometimes they get caught; sometimes they slide out of the channel and meet nature's enforcers, the rocks! Payback's a b.... Hy
