looking for shortcut?

On the trailer if I run it dry with no water and no gas for a minute or so & wrap it up water tight is that enough or should I still winterize it? NY Temps will be freezing for sure. So much to do so little time>>>>>>>

I thought all outboards were self draining and other than fogging and adding stabilizer, there was no reason to run antifreeze?

If it is the fuel injected four stroke, you should run a mixture of gas, stabilizer, injector cleaner and either 2 stroke oil or marvel mystery oil directly through the engine. Only use fogging oil directly into the cylinders - through the spark plug hole.

DO NOT spray fogging into the air intake, it will screw up the sensors.

Although they are self-draining, to be on the safe side, I ran pink through with muffs until it came out pink. I also pumped pink through the rinse-down hose.

Must I fog if I ran it dry?

Oops, I missed that, sorry.

I would fog it just to keep everything inside from rusting. With my small carb'd OB, I run it dry, and just as it dies out, I spray the fogging oil into the air intake. I also pull the plugs and do a couple of squirts in each cylinder then crank it over a couple of times.

You should drain the drive oil and refill it with fresh.

Never run the engine dry your problems just began. YOU engine should drain out when it is staight up and down. Check your impellers you might have burn them up. I would drain the bowl under the carberators. Remove the spark plugs put a teaspoon of oil in each hole and crank it by hand. Do you have a owners manual it should tell you if not call your dealer.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER run dry. You almost certainly need a new water pump assembly, not just impellor. If it's a carbed motor, run a mix of gasoline and stabilizer as per bottle until you are sure it's had enough time to thoroughly fill the fuel system. Disconnect the fuel line and let it idle until it dies. Then pull the plugs and spray a little, just a little, fogging oil into each cylinder. Pull the kill switch and spin the engine a couple of times. Put the plugs back in, take the muffs off, change the LU lube and leave it. Next spring put in a new water pump assembly. Leave the motor tilted down all the way. The only place enough water can stay is inside the gearcase, which is why you change the oil in the gearcase.
