Probably one of the ten best days we will see on the river this year. Anchored over in Croton, saw three separate pwc'ers get dumped, one where both driver and rider were tossed and the pwc turned over. (Took the assistance of another pwc'er to flip it over again) About twenty transient boats in Haverstraw from the Edison area, a captain of one ended up taking a trip to the hospital for a separated shoulder. Hmmm, wonder how that happened? A big shouting and swearing session from one of our own resident boat owners drew a lot of attention. Yup, a very "active" day at the marina yesterday.

And we wanted 2 days of sun, lord only knows what would have happened today...

Wow, Didn't see much of what you saw. Got back to HM about 3:00. Glad my kids didn't see that.

John:

I woke up at home this AM to pouring rain!!

We made the right decision to leave when you did. Can only imagine the circus once the sun went down.

Had a really nice, relaxing day at Croton Saturday. Stayed overnight and woke up to some lite rain on the hook and I have to say it was still nice being away from the dock but we headed back since the skies looked really ugly. (A little foul weather maneuvering practice is always a good thing anyway.)

In hindsight Sunday became a really nice afternoon. The marina was virutally empty, a nice afternoon to chill out after a day/night of partying!

We're heading up your way this week. Plan to take a run from Belmar NJ up the Hudson to Haverstraw with a few friends and stay over on Wednesday night. Last time we were there, a few years back, the restaurant at Haverstraw Marina had burned. Glad to see it's been rebuilt and available....

We were rafted in Croton all day Saturday and didn't see any of that! What a gorgeous day, almost too hot...

I'm in the airport right now, it is friggen HOT down here - 97 degrees & humid today.

I spent the day with the owner yesterday and went out for about an hour with him on the boat.

Looks good so far, I've got the names of several surveyors so I need to choose one. I went to the Cummins dealer who sells all their engines in Fl & Georgia and had a long talk with them and got warranty info on the engines in the boat. If I buy it, I'll have them do a complete engine & tranny survey.

So far, so good...

Mike, spill the beans, what are you looking at? I saw the 380 on craig's list....very attractive deal!!

Oh, it's just a boat, you know, made of fiberglass, stuff like that...

Come now Mike, were you looking at a Trojan, a Bertram or a Carver? ;)

Perhaps even a Sea Ray? How about a Regal?

Saturday was a great day out there. Light winds and calm seas. Unfortunately my outlaws wanted to go back in early (I Was NOT happy). Things you got to do sometimes I guess.

I heard about the ruckus over at Haverstraw - One of the many things I do not miss from there.

Very nice boat Mike. I'm sure you will like it. A big switch from your red with red canvas one!

Yes, it will take some getting used to! It also has one of the whirly things on the radar arch - and it's much quieter

One of the major drawbacks to Haverstraw, it that it is very transient friendly. In fact sometimes the regulars feel that the marina caters more to the visitors than the everyday bill payers.

If one or two boats come in togeather there is seldom a problem, but when you get groups of five, ten, or twenty+ boats as happened this week-end it is an all togeather different story. Kind of like the "groups" that rent a house at the beach for a week. They are only interested in their party, and have little or no regard for the people who live there on a daily basis.

We truly understand that it is a social community but when the people 30 slips away are playing their music so loud that you can't even carry on a conversation on your own boat, that is wrong. When people ride their segways up and down the docks because they are slipped to far out to walk, that is wrong. When people light their bar-b-q's in a slip amongst 1300 other vessels because "they are on vacation", that is REAL wrong!! It becomes an all about me and to hell with you situation.

I don't blame the transients anymore than I blame the marina staff, who see this but choose to avoid a confrontation. This is one aspect of Haverstraw that I will not miss.

I'm done ranting.

Getting closer and closer, so far, no snags...
