I'm planning a trip to Virginia Beach, from Annapolis. Would be in middle of August.

I am considering a stop in Yorktown-- staying at River Walk Landing. We've never been to Yorktown, and this seems like fun for a coiple of days.

From what I'm reading, the marina is a little noisy and there are wakes from boats. No big deal for me. I like that it appears there are lots of things to do within walking distance. It also says there is a Trolley to take you around.

Any thoughts on Yorktown?

Other possibility would be Cape Charles.

Thanks

We just got back from VB on Sunday. Had a great trip with stops at the Tides, Williamsburg
and the Hyatt. Where in VB are you staying? We stayed at probably the nicest venue we have ever stayed on the Chesapeake at Cavaliers Yacht and Golf Club. Totally first class but you have to have reciprication from another yacht club. If you do it is well worth the stop. It is located in Lynhaven inlet and back about 6 miles from the entrance, one mile to the beach by taxi. Great golf course, Pool, Tennis and fabulous restaurant and extremely affordable. If you have a chance check it out.

As far as Cape Charles goes, not much to do unless you golf but nice restaurant with VERY SMALL pool.

Van,

Thanks for the reply.
Last year we stayed at Fisherman's Warf. We will probably go back there. With young kids, the walk to beach is only a few blocks. The bus will take you up and down the boardwalk. No pool, but the beach is very close. VA Beach is really nice. Lots of entertainment options. We really enjoy the marina at Rudee Inlet right at the beach. Big Sam's has a great breakfast, right at the dockside bar/ restaurant.

With limited time, I agree that Cape Charles may get boring for family. We'll get there eventually, but not this year.

I've been to both and like both. With younger kids, you'll find more to do in Yorktown. Plus, kids need to learn and appreciate history, and it's surely there (plenty of neat history in Cape Charles, too, but more in Yorktown). Yes, there is a trolley in Yorktown that can come in handy, and the old section of town is just at the top of the hill from the public marina, plus Yorktown has a greater variety of restaurants than Cape Charles.

We did stop in Yorktown. We stayed two nights.

Nice place to visit. Only two other boats at marina.

Nice town, and lots of history.

Worth a stop.
