today! [8D]

After spending yesterday at the Sac boat show talking boats, we lived boats today.

The Delta was drop dead gorgeous today. FAC water throughout our voyage. Thankfully, the hyancinth is still dormant at the bottom of the rivers, so all we had to navigate around/through was the occassional floating tule or other type of flotsam.

We left Disco Bay with lunch in mind and steered our way to Village West and then Tower Park. Then we took the scenic route back to port via the South and North forks of the Mokelumne past Willow Berm and Moore's to the San Joaquin, then to Old River, through Frank's Tract to Sugar Barge for a stop to stretch our legs and check on the motorhome, which we store in the storage lockers there. Then it was back to DB and home.

There were very few boats on the water with the exception of the bass boats around Bethel Island and Mildred, too. Even though I try to be a considerate boater around the bass boat guys (the wake of a 41'er can be a little much for a low profile bass boat) it can be tough when I get flashbacks of the knuckleheads that pilot those things at 60 mph within a dozen feet of me while I pass under a narrow bridge opening. Not a bright move, if you ask me...

But anyway, it was an awesome day to be out on the water, no matter what season it is. Winter???, not today!!! [:-bonc01]

Its supposed to be in the 80s tomorrow (Wednesday)

This is why I live on my boat! Even in rainy weather, it doesn't matter - we're on the water!

Nothing beats the sound of the rain hitting the sheet metal roof of a covered berth while you are cuddling up with your loved one for the night!

Do you liveaboard the Sea Ray model in your avatar?

No, I guess I should change that avatar! We live on a 47' Atlantic aft-cabin that we got a little over a year ago. I don't think we could live on land again!

Nice! I envy you. You are living the life! I could get used to that real quick!

Many moons ago, one of my good friends and co-worker lived on a 38' Hunter at Cruiser Haven. Since I was single at the time, I crashed over there a lot. We worked a 4-10 schedule back then, so my "weekends" felt like an eternity. We jogged along the levee of Old River each morning, fished, chatted with other berthers, chased women and drank. A lot. I always wanted to live aboard after that, but I eventually did catch a woman, and those days quickly came to an end.

Now, whenever I meet a liveaboard, I think of what might have been.

And then my lovely wife wakes me up... [:-indifferent] :D

I liked anchoring out in the rain---if not too windy---listening to the rain pitter patter on the canvas and topside until I fell asleep.

If it was very windy I kept having to check the anchor just to be sure.....

Sweet memories.....

Yeah, some of my finest memories involved boating in the rain. Some of those fond memories even involved boating with my 16' Glasspar runabout. Even if the canvas did leak a little! [:-snorkel]

You know, I married the perfect gal for me, that's for sure. We started in boating only 9 years ago. We bought a little 19' Bayliner runabout. Didn't want to spend more/go bigger just in case we weren't really into it. About a year later my wife said 'you know, we're on the boat every weekend. I think we need a bigger boat'. We then moved up to a 27' express. Same thing happened. After about 2 years my wife said 'this is great but we need more room!'. So we bought an older 33' Carver (still have the 27' express). Loved that boat. Then, one day she said 'we've always thought when we retire we would want to buy a bigger boat and live aboard. What the hell are we waiting for? We never know how much time we've got so let's do it now!'. So, we rented out our house (can't sell it in this market), bought a bigger boat and this is where we are now. We both love it and couldn't imagine it any other way. In 9 years we went from a little runabout to living aboard. I think we're into it!

I love to take the boat way up Cache Slough, go west of the deep water channel and drop the hook. We put a out a couple lines in the water, break out the Crown Royal, light up a Macanudo and turn on the sound to Jerry Jeff Walker. I don't think there is much in the world better than that and I have been all over the world. We solve many of the worlds problems out there anchored in the old swamp.
