Based on new protocols, park staff will perform visual inspections on every vessel entering Anderson Lake, Coyote Lake, Calero Reservoir and Stevens Creek Reservoir. All other county reservoirs will be closed to boating.
Inspections at the four reservoirs will begin on May 23, 2008 and will continue until December 31, 2008. All water craft, including but not limited to, power boats, jetskis, sailboats, kayaks, canoes, and float tubes will be subject to inspection. Current vessel registration documents are required at the time of inspection. Vessels coming from San Benito County and all counties south of the Tehachapi Mountains will be denied entry as will vessels from out of state.

One of my guests at the 4 May Boat Builder Rendezvous towing his home built 12 foot sail boat was stopped at the agriculture inspection station coming into California from Reno. He was given a pamphlet on quagga and zebra muscels and an inspector walked around his boat. I think they have been inspecting the boats coming into Southern California on the interstates since early spring. Another guest came from Portland OR didn't say anything about his boat being inspected so I don't think they were inspecting at the Yreka I5 agriculture inspection station then.

I called San Pablo and Lafyette reservoirs recently and they are inspecting every boat that launches.

I read Fish and Game has a team of dogs trained to sniff out the muscels. I need to get my 2 labs trained to sniff the muscels then they can go to work at Fish and Game and I can stay home and build my 3rd boat.

LOL, deltadawg! Good idea! This is really a sad state of affairs though.

BTW, for folks who don't know, all of those reservoirs are located in Santa Clara County.
