The four kids were about 25yrs old, all from Mahopac, NY out of a marina in Westchester. Based on proximity to Mahopac, I'm betting it was Half Moon Bay. The other choices would be verplank area or ossining area.
From this morning's NY Post:
>>They left the Hudson Valley Marina in Verplanck and first headed to an on-the-water restaurant in Newburgh, said marina owner Steve Winkelmann.
"They were kind of excited to get out there and use [th] finally," Winkelmann said.
But as they were heading back south in the pitch-black darkness, the craft hit shallow water and thick mud at around 11:30 p.m. about two miles north of the Bear Mountain Bridge.
John Downey, 25, was at the wheel of the 26-foot motorboat when, "in the darkness, and being unfamiliar with the channel route, they got off into an area that apparently has a lot of boats run aground," said Capt. William McNamara of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
Downey tried to turn around, but apparently struck something and the boat capsized, he said.<<
