2007 Upper Chesapeake BoaterEd Rendezvous

We are in. Will be there Friday late afternoon but not big enough to be the mother ship. Will bring beer/drinks, food, Sharon, and Forrest.

I will try to make it. Would you anticipate any problems with rafting as I have a flush deck 47' ChrisCraft with no cockpit. The deck is about 6 feet above water level. I do have seating on the foredeck and aftdeck for 17 with room for more to stand.

Mike, there's ALWAYS a way to fit someone into the raftup. If worse comes to worse, we'll plug ya in at one end!

Also... if you'd stack your pictures instead of arranging them side-by-side, we can go back to not having to scroll to the right to read messages. <Thanks>

Guys, Steve York and Kurt Kolb have both been kind enough to supply me with cell phone numbers, so we'll see what happens. According to my schedule (at the moment) that weekend is still open. Also, I put out an APB for Bos'un on the NBR Forum... Maybe, if the timing is right, we can get Bo'sun to attend.

I will be there courtesy of C Spray and his Admiral. Not sure yet my Admiral will make the trip yet. Regardless, I'll (we'll?) need a berth somewhere for the night.

So CSpray... is it too early to place Jello Shooter orders in with the Admiral??? Between those and the wine... I barely remember last year's event!

Vic - So you need a "water taxi" service, but then have made arrangements for a birth on
one of the bigger boats? I can taxi you there, by my two aft single births are used for storage
and aren't a place anybody would want to sleep. But if you just need a ride, I suppose you could
meet us at our place (Maryland Yacht Club), leave your car there, and we could transport you
to the raft-up on Saturday and return you on Sunday. It's not a big difference drive-wise as
we're on the next creek to the South. Perhaps Steve has a better option....

You were there?

You're asking a rhetorical question, right?

The wine is in somewhat limited supply this year - it's a scheduling thing.

My Admiral will want to know how good is the fishing in around the raft up spot.

Kurt, I'm kind of vacillating between trying to get a room somewhere in the area or coming in my RV - I have a small Toyota motorhome that I can use to bunk in. I don't think I'd want to put anyone out by asking for a berth on their boat. But I will need a water taxi to get there from land. As far as parking, I dunno, guess I can find somewhere to park it - Steve, any possibility of parking it at your place? It has a bathroom aboard - I'll promise not to pee in your shrubbery... ;)

BTW, I called George Van Parys from BoatFix yesterday (we're practically neighbors - only about 5 miles apart) and asked him if he'd like to tag along as my "bodyguard". [:-bigeyes] Thought maybe he might like to get away for a day or two. But he said, while he'd certainly love to go, that the volume of work he has won't permit it. He can't get away for more than a couple of hours at a time. :( Too bad, :( I was hoping to bring him along as a surprise to everyone.

Haven't heard back yet on the possible availability of Bo'sun for that weekend.

Vic - you've got my number. If somebody doesn't have a dingy with them, we've probably got the
shallowest draw. Just call and your taxi will arrive!

Man, somebody fix those posted pictures. This layout is starting to give me a -return-
headache!

LOL!! I seem to remember pictures of you chilling onboard our boat. I'll have to go back and check. :)

lanbuilder - The fishing is usually OK, but with the lack of rain, we're dealing with low O2 levels like everywhere else. The Ospreys seem to find them, so there's something around. Crabbing has been tough these past couple of weeks. Everyone pray for rain between now and then!!!!!

Vic - C'mon down! We've got plenty of parking room, and a dink for shuttling back and forth.

Nettle check last night showed that they're in Stoney Creek, but seem to stop about 1/2 mile downstream of our place. We use the scientific method of running back and forth up the river looking for them to luminesce when they get caught up in the spray.

Since this is a BF/BE 'sponsored' event... has anyone applied for the booze grant yet? ;)

Well, as luck would have it I will not be attending on the 18th. I learned yesterday that I'll be traveling that weekend for business. So much for me telling GVP sto blow off work.

Chuck and all, thanks for the invites but I guess this will be the first year in many that we will not get time on the Bay.

Bummer. We were all set with our Dock of the Bay pickup/dropoff logistics, too. Be sure to let me know if anything changes!

Since you were so adamant that GVP "blow off work", why don't you do the same????

Mike, sorry to hear that - I wanted to use your hat as a homing beacon in case I got lost - now I might find myself in trouble... [B)]

Steve, sounds great - THANKS for the parking offer!!! :) I'll be in touch when we get a little closer to the actual date. I looked over the area on Google Earth, so I have a general idea of where I'll be going.

So what's our confirmed headcount/boatcount as of now???

Steve-
I've been waiting to reply because I've had an engine problem and was hopeful it'd be solved by the 18th. It won't, but I may still be able to attend If my friend Al wants to make the run with his 30' SeaRay "Tranquility". He really enjoyed Stillpond last year and keeps telling me he'll remember gas for the dinghy this year. My other option is to arrive with an "alternative mode" of transportation [:-idea]. I had to do this the first year I attended a BoaterEd raftup in, um '02 (I think) and it worked out pretty well. If I attend this way, it'll only be during the day on Saturday. I'll keep you informed.

Rob

PS- Are there any public launch areas on or near Stoney creek?

Rob,

It's a looooooooooong paddle in a kayak from HDG to Stoney creek !!

Erle

BTW - '02 is correct
