2008 Memorial Day Raft Up

Different problem, I believe the fuel pump is shot.

Sorry to hear it.

Better get it fixed soon, you need lots of genny juice to keep the walkin fridge, where your engines used to be, cold enough for the beer!

They checked it out already and the part is on order

This is a great fuel saving idea I will have to impliment during my next raft up! I never thought of pulling the old "my genset won't run can I plug into your boat please" trick! ;)
Just kidding!!

Glad to hear your part is on order!

Only a lawyer could thik of that.
(just kidding also) - sure did look like a good time , that teal center console blew by us near that orange ball across the river with a jet ski a coupple weekends ago heading tward croton, alittle too close guys if your reading this ,we were stopped and drifting for a pottie break and when you went by we got splashed and misted . no hard feelings , but not so close next time ok :)

Ok.. What is the story behind this mess? Tangled Anchors?

Yep, the boat on the right was pulling up his anchor and it snagged the anchor line of the boat on the left. Tried to get it off using the CC, but that did not work.

There were 3 other boats rafted to the starboard (you can't see them in the picture). Wind started getting gusty and was pushing them all into shore.

One boat (Relentless) had to cut his anchor line to get free, the other two pulled away.

After about 1/2 hour, and much maneuvering of the three boats in the picture, they were finally able to get the anchors free.

It was not a fun time!

The mistake that was originally made was pulling all the stern anchors while still having 4 bow anchors in. What should have been done is to pull bow and stern at one end, get boats off, then repeat pulling bow and stern on down the line.

"It was not a fun time!"
Sure fun to look at the pictures though .... HA HA :) Did you guys get a little rusty over the winter, You should be pros at that by now :(.... Jon

It just proves that Bowline can be a very tricky and dangerous place to anchor.

The real problem is that they started pulling anchors before the "anchor nazi" was there to guide them through the correct process.

That stinks.. We had a simular anchor problem over in Croton.
10 boats on 3 bow anchors and no sterns (I believe we had 3 to 4 boats between the anchors).
No tangled anchors but one of the anchors was under one of the end boats and without realizing it the boat broke off getting the anchor line wraped around the prop.

Leigh, you guys gotta learn to use stern anchors - with more than 3-4 boats, if you don't use stern anchors, you will end up just like you did.

We have never had a problem at Croton - always using bows and sterns.

Mike, when ever I am the one setting a hook or organizing the raft up I always use both bow and stern anchors.
This time I was mearly a guest and didn't set my hook.

The problem we encountered was more of a captain's error than anchoring proceedure. If the captain would have backed away from the raft up rather than pull off going forward he would have never gotten tangled up..

I guess the lesson here is to be aware of the surroundings when breaking away from a raft-up.

I hope there was no damaged to TJ's boat. In those last pictures it looks as though Giggity was making some contact with TJ's hull... Ouch...

Looks like you guys had a nice raft-up.

Spent Friday night playing a gig in Chester, NY. then got down to the boat around 5:00pm Sat. Had a great dock party and then headed out on Sunday for a night on the hook.

We were over at Croton from Sunday till Monday afternoon. Wind was out of the south so we were protected.

Bob, I Love how you did the boat name, was that an easy install?

Hi Leigh,
Thanks for your comment.
It was pretty easy to install. The company provided a template were to drill all the holes. Running the wire from the hatch to the helm took the longest.

Who is the little head on the bow of TJ's boat in this picture? And where is the rest of his body?

rommer, that is Jim, in his anchor locker, the door of which dropped on his head two times during this debacle.

Walter, that is "Buddy" - Warren's (Fish Tale) dog. He owns the boat on the right.

that is a great picture Buddy looks like a true blue all american dog.

The American Flag in the background may have something to do with that....LOL

I guess if it were a Mexican flag it would be a "true blue all Mexican dog"

I guess so , but glad it wasn't. Rather keep a few milk - bones aboard in case we see him on the river , rather than burritos & taco sauce :)
That is an awsome shot of Buddy though if you look close you can see the reflection of a boat in his eye. Jon
