Guys, just heard from the HRMM that Kingston is doing fireworks again this year, on June 27, 2010. No word on whether the music will be the "international jazz festival" of a few years back or not, but it should be a good time. You can contact Betty to reserve a slip at 845-338-0071, ext 16.

I've also attached the HRMM summer schedule, they're looking for any boater interest. Hopefully this doesn't bend the rules of the forum:

Is Bowline or Peekskill going to have fireworks that Friday?

See my post above.

Friday, June 25 9:00PM - Bear Mountain Fireworks

Is there a good anchorage near Bear Mtn to watch the fireworks and then overnight?

the "good" Peekskill fireworks are in August.

The Kingston fireworks have been a good show many of the recent years. Get reservations if you are coming. Rondout Yacht Basin or the City docks if you can get in, but I'm betting they are full. If you are close by many boats throw the hook in the creek.

Theres a strong current but you can drop an anchor just south of the bridge. I would not due an overnighter there...Just south of there is the Iona Island cove just at the tip of jones point. You can tuck in there for the night..

The water is quite deep at Bear Mountain, and the holding is not great. It can be an interesting night watching as anchor after anchor starts dragging...

From behind the Inn, on the shore of Hessian Lake.

OK, so it sounds like just south of the bridge on the west shore will make for good viewing and running back to Croton for the night is probably a safer than trying to find good overnight anchorage within viewing distance of the fireworks. I'm just trying to avoid running at night if possible.

If you go, I recomend that you wait about an hour after the fireworks end to head back. It is a madhouse before then.

What's the matter you don't like playing bumper boats. I'm always amazed how so many boats pull anchor in total darkness and take off for there dock at full speed with total disregard for safety. I agree wait for the mass exodus to end then proceed safely.

How about the idiots that use the docking or spot lights as if they were head lights while running on plane in the dark?
