2010 Fireworks

Ben;

Running at night from Bear Mt. to Haverstraw is a great ride. Just take it slow and enjoy the night. Unless you have just experienced a heavy rain there should be very few obstacles to deal with.

As stated, plan on spending an additional 1/2 hour after the fireworks so all the yaa-hoo's can get out of your way and give you clear passage.

All -

I reserved a slot at the HRMM for the fireworks Sunday nite, but am going to need to cancel as we're going to need to be in town Monday for a home inspection and house closing (yeah, it'll be an interesting day). I'll be calling Betty tomorrow to cancel, if anyone's interested they can call after 10:00 ro so.

We did our first night run last weekend from Torches to Croton. Reminded me a lot of flying IFR. Lots of work and not so much fun. We got to Croton and I counted about 30 boats on radar and saw about ten lights. Lit one up with the spot and they turned they anchor light on. This was around 10:30p. Good news is we'll have a nearly full moon all night long Fri night.

I think it was three years ago there was a beautiful full moon rising over the Hudson for the ride back from the Bear Mountain fireworks. It was my first night run after putting radar on my current boat. Just a gorgeous night for the run home with the full moon directly over the river. I was pretty much by myself because, as mentioned above, I let the parking lot empty out first.

Does anyone recall what time the Fireworks would end on the 4th. I just checked the tides and low is at 11:23 pm. I don't think I will be able to attend unless I spend the night on a hook and I don't want to first set the anchor in the dark. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? (besides changing marinas)

How about you get a one night transient slip at Haverstraw? Get there around dinner time to find and setup the slip. Go out and enjoy the fireworks and then head back to your temporary slip for an overnight.

Not to expensive and you get a night out. A mini vacation of sorts.

Why do you have to anchor in the dark?? Why not get out while it's still light out and drop the hook?

Getting an early start on the weekend.

Well we're here. Bunch-o-boats, but none of y'all? What's up with that?

Come on Dave, raft up with us and stay out.

Ben I just spoke to my wife and we my take you up on your offer, I let your know. As sad as this may sound I have not spent a night on a hook in over 2o years. I have a fear of killing the batteries. I have a generator with its own battery if it happens I not sure why I'm so concerned. I even have a jump pack that would start the generator if that battery died.

Rommer the thought crossed my mind it just kills me to pay for a slip 1 mile from my own. It not the money it's the concept that gets me. Although it is a practical solution.

Hogan where can you anchor for the night and see the fireworks? That would be great!
After rereading the above dates I guess the best plan is to spend the night in Bowline on Friday on watch the display from there.

We went to Bear Mountain to watch fireworks!

"We went to Bear Mountain to watch fireworks!"

How were they last night?

Calm river, moonlight on the water, fireworks and the company of wonderful friends. It just does not get any better than that.

Fireworks last night were excellent. Not as crowded with boats as usual.

One moron tried to anchor right over my anchor, when I yelled at him, he said, "I'm not on your anchor, yours is straight down" I had to explain to him that all chain anchors always look straight down, but it was in fact at least 75 feet in front of me.

Some people are really, really stupid!!!

Best part about last night's fireworks at Bear Mountain was when the hundreds of crows took off across the river after the first few booms. It was an excellent night to be out though. Fireworks were average.

The fireworks were great. We got in pretty shallow, so we stayed the night. Woke up to only one other boat in the area. I slept like a baby too.

Most entertaining was the 12' tri-hull with four guys hoopin' and hollerin' all night long. At least they had the sense to wait until most others had left before they ventured out.

Did see Starry Night come in and I think Hogan. We're up at Kingston for the rest of the weekend. Slip 20. Come say hi if you're around.

West Point has them 7/3
Newburgh 7/4

I can't speak for the quality of the show.

We were there, nice thing about it was we were on someone elses boat so no fuel expence....
