I am looking for new and different places to go with the family on the south shore? last year I did short beach alot but I keep hearing about hemlock cove and garbage cove. Looking for a place where I can anchor, with a short walk to the beach and well protected for maybe an overnight stay on the hook.. any info would be appreciated...

fot.... thats one topic in LIBI that has not been added to yet.
If you head east from short beach....past the bridges....pick up the state channel...it starts with Zachs Bay. Zachs is a day/night anchorage with beach access. Then Tobay Beach Marina for the town of Oyster Bay residence (permit required)....it has day/night dockage...pump-out w/limited day anchorage on the west shore and beach access. Then Gilgo Beach Marina....day dockage ONLY...with a snackbar and beach access. Next are Garbage & Hemlock Coves....both day/night anchorage with beach access. Then Cedar Beach Marina for the town of Babylon residence (permit required)....it has day/night dockage ...pump-out...resturant...limited anchorage on the west side...and beach access. Headed east....you can pick up the list with the start of Fire Island Marinas. Also on the north side of the bay (east/west channel)....there are plenty of marinas and resturants to check out.

I have been looking for someone with maptech to document the locations of good anchorages and I will add to LIBI.
All I have is boatersbox.com charts and they are crude.

I updated LIBI with some of mine.
Let me know if anyone has others.

thank you It looks like if you live in the town of hempstead you are kind of limited on where you can go with all of these places requiring residency permits...

The two that require permits ( Tobay & Cedar ) is only to use the dock slips. If you anchor out.....no permit is needed.

Plus there are no permits needed to anchor in any of the coves.

Yes our town of hempstead does nothing for us....... Well except take our tax dollars

Rob

Hey, I have a slip in Lindenhurst that I OWN. I pay Town of Babylon Tax, school tax, parks tax, etc.
Yet, I can't get a permit to use any Town of Babylon facilities becuase my cars and boat registered in Town of Smithtown.
Go figure!

Go to the Babylon town hall .....and bitch !!!.........Its not right.

But......thanks for helping us Babylon residents with our taxes...........

I tried that twice.
It all goes by where your cars or boat are registed.
Whats BS, is what if you were a snowbird and did 6 months in Florida and 6 months in beautiful babylon and had your cars registered in Florida?

They should mail stickers out with your tax bill!

LOl have them send the tax bill to ur slip......

Dave thats a good point.. u shouldbe able to get a permit.... u pay taxes....

http://www.townofbabylon.com/faq.cfm?category=108 Someone find me a way to get a permit!

I don't know much about legal matters but it seems to me if you own property of any sort and are paying taxes, you should be able to get a permit. You should try one of those consumer news programs like Help Me Howard, or 7 on your side, etc. Would I love to see that on the news!!!

Yeah.....its NOT fare....if they go without a permit they would have to pay a non-resident dock rate....after paying town taxes.
If I remember the non-resident fee is $65.00 per night.

I know u cant use a PO BOX.....

Showing up with ur tax reciept should be good enough...

Mailbox etc, and UPs store is an address not a PO box......

Walter

It's where boat is registered.
Lets open up 1 mailbox and split it and change our boat address to there.
