Thinking it might be time for a change and hopefully save a few bucks in the process.

I am currently spending ~$129/ft for Summer and Winter storage (including electric).

I love the location and there's absolutely nothing I don't like about the marina but I don't use the facilities (do my own work and we don't hang at the dock) so the security is really the only thing we take advantage of. Therefore, I am looking for recommendations on where to look for a new 16 (at least) slip where I can hopefully save a few bucks.

Or is $129/ft the going rate for that area.

TIA
Jeff

I'm moving over to AYC because the town does NOT provide any security and frown on us using the electric. You're going to have a hard time finding better for less. Just my opinion.

"frown upon..." WTF is that? Either they provide it or they don't...which is it.

I guess this is a +1 in the Stay column.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff you do or don’t do your own work? Few marinas will let you do your own work ecspecially bottom paint. That would be one of the most limiting factors of you do your own work

LOL,
AYC is so cheap as owners, we are pissed!!!! Post your results so we can hammer the office to raise rates!!!

hold the phone...I just redid my numbers. I am at $129/ft with yearly storage and year round electric.

As for doing my own work. I meant I do all winterization while subcontracting out the bottom painting and shrinkwrapping. I also do my own light engine work so I dont feel like I need a full service shop 100' from my boat. That being said, I know there are a few places that are more work yards rather than yacht clubs and I wouldn't be adverse to that.

At 129 a foot year round your doing good. Even on what you would call a boat yard you will still be paying more. Most south shore marinas are at 150 to 175 a foot and that is length overall and that’s just the summer add another 50 a foot for winter and them doing all the labor. Not your model number.

Now if you were looking for a place with more or different cruising destinations then I would agree with the move.

I moved from the AYC 3 years ago but I went to the cheasapeake bay. That was a lot cheaper. Now I am in Greenport at 175 a foot just for the summer and 300 for electric. Because I own a slip in the AYC still I bring my boat back for the winter so I can do my own work and save around 4K on winter fees.

If it was me I would just stay at the AYC.

Your not going to beat the cost.

I'm paying $129 per foot for the summer plus 680 for electric then an additional 32 per foot for the winter.
Sounds to me like you are getting a great deal like likely going to do better.
BTW This is at my know marina for the summer in Stamford CT and back in Stony Point for the Winter.

My Marina in Greenport charges by the Slip, not the foot, so for me it works out to $188 a foot plus $750 for electric. this is for 8 months of April to Dec 1st
Not cheap but i feel it's well worth the $'s as its a true vacation spot.
Almost every cruising destination has a deep water route
plenty of places to just drop the hook & hang- just finding many Restaurants for dock & dine- Running over to Mystic for lunch/dinner is like when i would go to Stamford from Huntington

And even on busy weekends more manageable than the Southshore/GSB channels

AYC rates are going up
Owners need to do something.
AYC is way too cheap for what it offers.
The office holds it back.

I am at $150/FT including electricity, cable and WiFi, at the mouth of the Connecticut River. April 1 - November 30.

Jeff,
As a renter I feel bad for you because you just opened a can of worms that I am going to address at AYC
We need to have standardized minimum rates. Issue is too many slip owners give their slips away too cheap.
In my view, we need to set minimums for slips that are rented thru the office as opposed to Billy's best guess.
D Dock should cost more.
I think it should be $150/foot for summer and $20 a foot for winter storage.
Then we will be competitive with other marinas
Right now it is way too cheap!

Thanks all.

I guess I can check changing marinas off my list until Dave screws it up for me.

$680 for electric???? That is insane! That adds $15/foot to your dockage. And I thought they overcharged for electric at HM...

That is pricey but quite frankly I was paying Haverstraw about $70/month and rarely made it there during the week so nothing was running except for battery charger, fridge and freezer.I kept AC , bridge fridge and second ice maker off so my guess it will be cheaper then paying Haverstraw per kw for me since I will be using boat much more often after retirement.

Andy, I assume that price does not include winter storage?

Walter,
Yup, does not include winter. I like staying in the water so my cost is $52 a foot plus electric
BUT i get to use it as a man cave and will watch the super bowl on it

It is a lot but it is what it is! Lets just say I'm not moving to the sound because it's cheaper! If you want cheaper there are places that are much less but we happen to like the marina and it is worth the price at least for a year to try it we can always move if we decide someplace else would be better.

$129 per foot for summer and winter in a place like AYC isn’t a bad deal.
There may be nicer places further east on the south shore in Suffolk, but you’re probably not going to be able to do all the things (maintenance and repairs) you currently do on your boat like you can at AYC.
If I didn’t own my dock property Inwould probably look to buy something in there myself.
It would be better to own a slip there if you don’t mind tying up the money, but if you’re not looking to buy something there then renting is the next best thing.
You could probably save a bunch of money in a working boatyard if you don’t need amenities, and they usually include electric, but while they probably won’t mind your battery charger running all week, they most likely wouldn’t be thrilled if you left the air conditioning going for days on end.
It would be a trade off.

Sorry but it does seem too low.
If we were not a dockominium the prices would be higher.
For what they offer.
Owners need to bring it to a vote to set a standard for all slips. Some rent too cheap
