Boat trip on Jan 22

I agree I remember going years ago the place was crazy and they had big boats, its sad that it downsized so much. I use to love going.

What's funny is I think our prospective of what big boats are has changed over the years. There was a time when I thought a 37' boat was huge. Now when we go to the show we really don't even look at boats less the 40' and there are not many bigger there.

Several things have caused the show to change. Was a time when you could see 10 models of the same size boat from 10 manufaturers (six made by Brunswick). Those days are gone. As far as the big boats go, companies like Cabo, Viking and others realized that if you're spending 500k plus on a boat, you are willing to drop a few hundred dollars on a trip to Florida or the plant.

The Miami show is my favorite. If you can get in on the dealer day, nobody bothers you and nobody tells you to take your boat shoes off before boarding.

Has anyone been to the show yet? Who is planning to go on Saturday?

I'm going to try and drop in after work tonight. I'm already in the city so I just jump in a cab. I'll let you know what I think.

I was there last night and I found it to be disappointing and uninspiring. It was even smaller than last year and laid out much differently. There were far fewer boats and surprisingly few people in attendance between 6 and 8:30. It was open 'till 9 but there just wasn't enough (for me) to see to keep me there that long - not to mention a bunch of vendors closed up shop early.

I was disappointed that the new Cruisers Cantius 48 didn't make the show. I was told it was because of weather - there's a big hole at the Cruisers display where the boat was supposed to be. It was nice to see the Sabre 40 Flybridge after the coupe made an impressive debut at the show last year. Regal had their 46 SC there which is an impressive design for an express. And, of course, I had to check out the variety of faux teak products that the various manufacturers are using. An informal survey had most of them using Flexiteek.

But it is what you make of it and always a great winter distraction. It's just a shame that it really felt substandard to what a boat show in New York City should and used to be.

Traffic at the show has been pretty good today. Fairly even. Yesterday was spotty with some long lulls.

I haven't been around the floor yet so I can't comment.

Still a decent distraction for a January day.

Just got back from the boat show. Definitely smaller then last year. I'm not sure why I went. I should have listened to Einstein. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. I think this is the first time i ever went to a boat show and could not find to spend my kids inheritance. My advice if you feel the need to go the the Javitz Center....go downstairs to the motorcycle show. You will be more impressed.

Sorry to hear this I will be heading there tomorrow afternoon. I have a small list of things I hope to find but if not I will wait until spring. Time to buy my satellite dish and a few other things.
I can't wait for spring.

I believe the show seems smaller because they shrank the floor plan to fit the vendors so it is less spread out.

It looked to me like there were more larger boats than there were.

If you're going, make sure to look at and into the Sabre 40 flybridge...a really beautiful boat imho.
I thought the show was a little better than last year even with the construction and a good section of the center display floor blocked off.
Sea Ray...(Sundancer 31) really...putting the refrigerator inside a cabinet so you have to open two doors to get inside.

Same deal on the $1 million + Azimut 48. Beautiful cabinetry enclosing a fridge not dissimilar to what I had in college.
A little strange as far as functionality but at least the look is clean.

John I didn't get to see the Sabre my wife said she is not ready for a boat like that yet and wanted to get on to some others. Two favorite boats at the show was the Tiara this one is the nicest I have seen I really liked the layout great looking boat. My top pick at this time is the 52' Sedan Bridge Searay. I have never been a big fan of Searay boats but this is a great boat if only I had an extra 1.5 million I would have ordered it at the show instead I will have to wait until I hit the lotto. Sunseeker was a nice looking boat but it was sold and they tape closed all closest and cabinets so you can't get a good feel for the boat I never got on the Azimut the line was at least an hour the whole time I was there. I didn't find anyone selling the things I was hoping to buy at the show so I guess it will have to wait.

Over all this my not have been the biggest or best show I have been to but I still enjoyed it, it was a nice break from the daily grind and an escape into boating fantasy.
