We took a ride sunday to cedar for Mothers day . I pull into a slip and a marina employee walks over and says u cant come in ur a non resident. Im like its off seasaon and I usually pay a non resident fee. He's like not anymore and walk away , Im like there are 3 boats in the entire marina, Ill leave if someone wants the slip ..... We cant just eat lunch and leave .... he never turn to answer me . WTF, So now cedar is off limits completely ? It leaves TOH boats will NO facilities to use

Rob

I live in Town of Smithtown and I pay tax in Town of Babylon for my 2 slips where I live during the summer.
I totally agree and had a fight with the town attorney in the town of babylon.
I asked why my tax bill shows a park tax, if I can't use any of the parks?

Let's get a bunch of slip owners in AYC to sign a petition!

Personally, Cedar Beach does not do much for me, but it's still a cool place to go dock now and then.

I guess they are taking in so much money that they don't need it any more. Idiots.

Hey.....if they lose money at the marina.....they'll just raise taxes to cover it.......no biggie.

Dons right .... Sadly...

The place was empty and the kid was a tool.

Did you try a bribe ???......it usually worked for me. :)

I remember having a discussion with someone on here or another site and they were arguing that it should only be for town residents. I guess he got his wish.

I would think if they are using only town raised revenue to run the beaches and marinas so be it. If they are using state funds, wouldn't the area be a state asset accessable by all state members. If a combination, then an out of town user fee seems in order. My 2 logical cents.

That said, if I remember my history correctly, anything named Babylon didn't fare out too well in the long run!

Common sense has to factor in . The place was empty . Charge a non resident fee and collect the money ....

And advise if the place fills up u have to leave .

It is purely a political move. Money is not a problem, just raise taxes! But, the constituents, well hey, my politician is fighting to keep this our playground!!!
Unfortunately, when we all get a tax bill, it does not come with a "spread sheet", if it did, you would hear more rumbling on the spending and where money is lost!

Why would anyone want to go to a marina where they are not welcome, help me understand what's going on at this location.
Bill

Gee guys can't you use any of those small islands for a free anchor off the beach party instead of crowded marinas? Or just anchor outside and wade in???

Remember, we boat in a sand box with channels carved into it.
When you leave the main channel you quickly experience low water.
Even then wading in involves marshland and not beach.
The few beaches that you can get to are usually very crowded.
Add in that our bottom contains alot of eel grass and anchors don't hold very well sometimes.

With a big boat it's alot more enjoyable, at least for me to know I am tied to a dock and have no worries.
With that said, I have no issues anchoring over cedar.
The point of this thread was to complain about how empty town marinas by us would rather turn away boats and have empty slips over collect the money and lower taxes for their township.
We have numerous marina's like this.
Marina's should be for the the people, residents if town owned, but non residents if there are no residents around.
Davis park is a marina that changed their rule to allow non residents and I am sure their revenue stream is up.

They play the same game with Cedar Beach campground. Talk about Suffolk Co losing revenue.....they shut down Heckscher State Park campground YEARS ago and never re-opened it.....but still maintain the grounds. Politics at its finest.

Billy,
Where my boat is kept in NASSAU county. There are no Boat related Parks / destinations for overnights. Im not a big day boater. Also we have a small dog. The CEdar beach is an hour run and its the closest Marina to overnite. ( was the closest ) Now I have to run almost 2 hrs to Watch hill , sailors , etc . Cedar is nothing special. ITs slips and a parking lot. Its a white trash **** hole but it was a place to dock. The hook is nice but the dog makes it a pain in the ass. SO that's the conversation.
