Here is copy of an email that I just sent to Steve Lurie (steverb2@gr5tclearwater.org), the Festival Director:
Mr. Lurie,
First, I wish you and the festival the greatest of success. The work that Clearwater has done, and continues to do, is important and valued. As a boat owner that enjoys the river several times a week from early spring to late fall, I can attest to the improvements that I have seen over the years to the water quality, and river access that your organization has been so deeply involved in.
I would like very much to be able to anchor my boat off Croton Point, like many boaters do every week-end, and then take my dingy into shore to attend the festival. However, I have been told by many of my fellow boaters that that is not possible, because the park police do not allow it.
I find it very frustrating that I can not arrive at the festival that celebrates the river, from the river. As one of the most influential voices on the riverfront, I hope that your organization will ask the Westchester County Parks department to reconsider it's policy, at least for the festival week-end.
