Croton ban on boating!!!!!!!

let's try to get this back on point, we can argue about lawyers in a separate thread.

Just pulling your leg ;)

Since I'll be up river this weekend, maybe I'll call the Westchester cops and complain about the boats too close to shore. Just for kicks!

Chris,

After you get arrested criminal trespass at Croton, you just might need a good liar, er, lawyer.

I know 2 that can help!

Jonathan

Jonathan, I'd be very, very pissed off if I was arrested for "Criminal Trespass at Croton". I have this huge monthly nut of which is 50% goes to the tax escrow account!! All for the privelege of living in the Village of Croton.

I say we start a "seven fifty fund" to assist in the defense of the first HRCCer who gets a ticket for this bogus offense.

I wasn't able to get up there this weekend, but is there really a ban on boating in croton?

No, there is no ban, read this thread, they have put up signs (probablly illegally) which "ban" anchoring within 750' of the shore.

They don't specifically ban anchoring Mike, IIRC the wording is "NO watercraft allowed closer than 750 feet of shore" So not only can't you anchor but paddling into/from shore is also against the rules. I remember this because I was wondering how they can continue to allow kayaks to launch from the public cartop boat launch ramp they have. Last I checked kayaks are watercraft as well.

Lots wrong with those signs if you ask me.

BTW - I went to Croton early Sunday morning with my Shuttlecraft and there were several raftups and individual boats closer than 750 feet to shore.

Ok, ok, ok.... Everyone just needs to relax.. They are not enforcing anything.. for the past three weeks I have been anchoring on the shelf (much closer than 750') and not a single offical has said a word. They were out patroling and no one has said hoot.. So enjoy what we have left of summer and stop worrying about getting ticketed for anchoring (or as Rommer has corrected, having your watercraft within 750' of shore.) in Croton. Oh the drama....

Rummor has it that our fearless moderator was overheard saying, "Croton is dead to me!"

Leigh, we missed you 3 at the SPBM BBQ bash.

Yeah I know.. Wanted to make it but spent too much time in the sun on Sat. I was sleeping by 9:00 PM.

I did take a ride over on Sunday (in the 18' center console I picked up last week) and saw you looking right at home next to Shabbah... Is this s sign of things to come?

Leigh, I guess I just like it because of: calm, protected, uncrowded water; no harassment by jet skiers; no restrictions on where to anchor; deep, clean water; no harassment by Westchester police; gorgeous view out the entrance to the south; quick ride to the marina; delivery by Planet Wings; and the nice breeze that blows through the cove.

Planet Wings delivers! do they meet you at the O&R dock?

I have not been into bowline because I hear how there is something dubmerged in the entrance. How do I safely get in there? Also once your in there is the remainder of the area clear or are there other obstacles?

Thanks,
MJK

Keep way left coming in, line up with the church steeple up on the hill, follow that line till your past the submerged brick pile, (currently marked with a red ball but hasn't always been) and your in!

A lot of boaters have problems getting their anchors set and holding in Bowline. There is shallow water just outside the entrance, as well.

Did they close the beach as well? Usually they do after labor day weekend. We were over there on Sunday and the beach was closed.
