Hello. We are looking to take a day trip up the Connecticut river. Any recommendations for places to see or activities? Hamburg Cove,,,, Essex?

Thanks

Essex is a charming town with lots to see. There is a Brewers marina that sometimes has slips available and Essex Island is a destination in its own right.

Gilette Castle, Selden Creek, Hamburg Cove, EIM, Goodspeed and many other things to do.

You can go all the way to Hartford. A nice stop is the restaurant in Middletown where you can tie up.
Billy Joel's River of Dreams bridge photo was taken there. Nice spot behind Haddam Island. East Haddam, get the kids a hot dog off the Hot Dog raft in the middle of the river.

Essex Island Marina is the place to go. If you arrive on a Friday, take their shuttle ferry to Essex, a 2min ride and walk up the street and check out the "Gris" it's actually The Griswold Inn Hotel and Restaurant. Fri. Nights is banjo night and it's loads of fun. People making noise, sometimes throwing popcorn, playing spoons and just having a blast. You'd never guess when you first walk in. Oh and by the way, the food and service in the dinning room is good!
