Meanwhile it s nice 68 degrees inside the boat!

Yep, when you really hate fish you go after them regardless. I was once that way. I can remember fishing when the water driping from my line would freeze in the rod eyes and I would have to dip the rod in the water to unfreeze before making a cast. Absolutely nuts!

That’s nothing. Rode to the marina yesterday and they are out there on the ice. :)

When I was a kid, I went ice fishing with my Dad. Cut the holes in the ice and set the lines. It was cold, but it didn't bother me.

If the water around me were still liquid, I'd probably still be out fishing. For now, I have to wait a bit until it's thick enough to walk on...

Wait until you end up in the middle of a tournament - 50 boats ripping away from the start as if the fish know they are coming. I've never gotten into it, but for many fishing is addictive. A work friend is into it - he is out the door at the break of dawn about every weekend - big ass truck, crazy fast bass boat, $1000s in other gear -- he loves it. A couple of the kids that work the docks at my marina are on their college fishing teams - big stuff. Everyone is entitled to use the water, but personally I would rather share the lake with a bunch of bass fisherman than wake boats!

As Jeff Foxworthy said "If you've ever been too drunk to fish, you might be a redneck!" just saying.

In my younger days I too would fish on any weather, never too cold or too hot. The older I get the less it appeals to no. Downgraded from 28’ to 25’ to 20’ and finally to 17’ Tracker. Now at 81 I decided it was time to quit. My SIL had his eye on my Tracker so I told him to make me an offer. He did and the rest is history. No regrets, I enjoyed 65+ years of boating in various types of boats. My 1939 Chris Craft still resides in my garage.

I'm not quite as mad at them as I once was but I have to say I didn't go out in 26 degree weather. Now wind and rain is another story. For many years my wife and I went fishing almost every Saturday from March through November with some nicer winter days thrown in. If there was no lightning when we got to the boat ramp we went.

I was launching my kayak after work to fish a small local reservoir last summer when a train of trucks and trailers started showing up. Ended up talking to a few of the guys, they were doing an overnight 7 to 7 tournament. None of them were locals, but they were decent guys. I warned them of what they were in for. With the mosquitoes on that particular body of water, you couldn't pay me to fish it after dark.

That being said, when they were all launched and headed out, it was manic as they all headed to far corners of the reservoir at full throttle. There is a heck of a stump field with trees still standing and lurking just below the surface, I never found out if any of them found a tree with their prop. I would never run through there above idle...

And I agree, I'll take a bass tournament over wake boats any time!

Then today this guy flew thru the fairway 15’ from my boat… no idea what this thing is… not an outboard as the prop sticks out on an extended shaft… loud as hell. IMG_6837.jpeg

I don't know if there is a specific name for them - outboard motor fashioned like a straight shaft weed whacker, lets you run through very shallow water and swamp areas full of stumps and such. Home made, basically an aircooled lawn mower engine you would buy at Harbor Freight.

Those things are badass! Loud as hell, but they can run through any weeds....the 4x4 of boat motors...

My son's friend up in Alaska took us all over Minto Flats pike fishing one day, that damned thing can nearly run through a puddle...

There are a few factory models...Mud Skipper, Mud Buddy, Beavertail... I think even Briggs and Stratton builds one.
