Mark...... I use to go deep....but like Brad said...it doesn't seem to move the water enough...and freezes in. I find if you push ( splash ) the water up higher... it tends not to freeze in......if I go too deep...on low tide its in the mud....Also I set mine up different...I hang it off the bow pulpit... in place of the anchor.....and lift it out when its not needed........IMHO
