It's been suggested that I use Pine Sol as a holding tank cleaner, deodorizer, disinfectant.
Any comments or suggestions on this product. Or any other way to help with holding tank maintenance.

Anybody tried Rid Ex ? The septic tank stuff. I know it helps reduce the amount of methane (or whatever septic smell is) in septic systems.
Or what about diluted toilet bowl cleaner. (I'm talking about putting any of these down the pump out tube, not flushing)
Dawn dish soap ? Cuts grease, is poo the same. . . .never mind
Why does Calgon cut poo stuff from the inside of the tank ?
Huh . . Huh. . .Why Daddy Why ?

My opinion only.
If the smells disappeared after installing the filter, you are masking the smell. It is being absorbed by the charcoal.
I am not a fan of filters and would take it off Saint Max in a heartbeat, BUT, the vent line is too small to be effective without a filter. On my 2465 Regal, the vent line was somewhere around an inch and a half. I took an old piect of black garden hose and shoved it in the vent to rinse the tank while pumping out. Never had a smell problem.

Actually it is an old trick RV'ers have used for years. It breaks down the chemical bond of the existing goop (Don't you f#cking DARE ask me how!) and then coats the inside of the tank so the goop can't stick. I have never heard of a contra indication with CP, KO or Odorloss.
HTH.
Response:
My goodness all of a sudden you are just of Plethora of informaton aren't you ? And 'don't DARE ask you how ?' OH my I'm really feeling intimidated now. Moron.

One thing about the internet. . . . . Pu**y's turn into big tuff guys when they hide behind a keyboard. That would be YOU Ja**ass.
Gave Vic and Les plenty of time to moderate your 'over the top' post. Even e mailed them about your abusive and hateful post, (as described in #5 of the forum rules) no response from either. Guess there are no rules. So responding as I see fit.
You would be well served to put a sock in it, but you won't, you're a keyboard fu**ing bully.
Go ahead now David, show everyone what a big man you are. . . .Daddy.

david;
you're right the filter does remove the smell but isn't that the idea?
in the warm waters of south florida a filter is not an option, its required. i tried all kinds of different treatment types and they all invariably led back to the same place. about 3 days in and the smell could be overwhelming depending on the wind direction. after putting the filter on, the problem was gone. i take care to never overfill the tank so i'm not worried about the filter getting blocked. its an 1 1/2" line and pretty healthy sized filter on a 40 gallon tank.
