She is four days out and projected to possibly make a Long Island land fall. What preparations are you making and when. I'm about a block from the beach in Point Lookout so I'm really concerned about this one.

Try to get the closing date for the sale of my house.......moved up to tomorrow. :)

I am suppose to leave for Shinnecock on Sunday.
Trying to decide if I want to go before or after storm comes.
Way I see it is this:
- Out east may get hit harder than west.
- Out east the tide is much larger swing.
- Out east I am on a floating dock
- Out east boat will face South.
- Out east I will have no choice but to stay on boat.

So I am thinking I am better off waiting for storm to pass.
I will add extra lines and sleep on boat with car ready to go if there is flooding.
Been through a few of these and as long as it's less than Cat1 or Cat2, we should be ok.
Cat3 and above and we may be looking at trouble.
If it gets there, then I may haul it.
As long as we don't get a tidal surge, I would rather be in water than on land!
If we get the surge, whioh is rare since we have so litte water to begin with, then we have issues!

I agree with your thinking, too many 'what ifs' to factor in by running out East with the given predictions. In worse case situations you are also better equipted to deal with the situation on your home turf.

Current forecast shows the eye passing right over the forks!
I can't get a break this season. Whole month of July was dedicated to work.
Last good week of season and all I want is a solid week on my boat with no hassles!
Ugh!

I know the feeling, was on vacation the last 2 weeks - my shorts are still damp. Luckily I came back to work on Monday so everything can dry out.. I think I am done with August vacations, every year it is the same sh_t.

Also took a week in July this year, weather was great and marinas were empty. Next year maybe a switch 2 weeks in July and long weekends in August instead.

I prefer doing the same. Also August is harder to get into anywhere. Beginning around 9/10 though the end of October will be a my next phase of the season. It is great if the weather holds up. Last season we were in West Hampton, Watch Hill, Sailors Haven, Kismet and Atlantique during the last 6 weeks of our boating season and we had pretty good weather for the most part. November-March is hanging at the dock. But this year, I may haul out around Thanksgiving for the first time in in about 7 years. My new Marina is not that conducive for hanging out after the season ends as it was at the LIYC.

Post labor day boating season, I wish. My wife is a teacher and unless the religious holiday makes a long weekend Columbus day is my only hope. This year my boys start soccer so my weekends in the fall may be shut down all together. Urrgg, season is too short!

Brad,
Can I get into Atlantique after labor day on weekends?
I think I can. May have to visit once.
Will do watch hill columbus day as always.
October will be tough for me, next go live at work!
This work thing gets in the way, I need to retire like Don (without the mobile home)!

Dave,
Stay where u are. Marinas here are pulling boats already. This does not look good. Im moving my slip to one that faces east west. This places floods on high tides . I cant imagine what were in for !

Rob

I think it will just scrape us.
If you think you will be better off in the Shinnecock marina, you can have my slip, it is paid for from Sunday night.
It is a 15' beam slip on the floating dock. SO I think it has 2 poles and the floater.
That marina may not flood as the bulkhead there is very high because of the locks.

I hope to come out Monday Morning and be in it Monday night if all is well.

Glad we went away in the middle of July, we had one night of about 30 minutes of rain, the rest of the time it was sunny and warm!

I'm not sure I'd want to be in the Shinnecock canal, if the water rises and rushes in, there could be a lot of flooding in there.

Let's hope for the best that it veers east and out to sea!

Im on vacation from thursday. I have to go home Monday and Tuesday but will be back Tuesday nite.

Thanx for the slip. Im going to work with What I have.

Rob

Sounds good, see you out there during the week.
Let's hope for the best.

After shifting the storm track to the east on just about every update the latest update shifts it back west again pretty much over the forks. We definitely have to keep a close eye on this one.

I'm on the fence if I'm safer on my floating dock in merrick, in a slip on hudson canal in freeport or being hauled

Adam, Im right there with you. Im 500 feet from the boardwalk in Long Beach. Two weeks ago when we had that rain storm, my parking garage flooded. I worked 39 hours straight and when I got home at 5am, I stepped out of my car and the water was up to my knee. Ruined a good pair of shoes (the gf was excited we got to go shopping)

Atleast I am on the 6th floor, but I face the ocean....

Good luck gang, we hope this passes well. We know alot of folks down South that are crapping right now. With any luck it will lay down before it get's this far North. But just be ready. Haul out, or do what ever it takes.

Guys,
Actually the canal's not too bad in a storm. Because of Montauk and Sunrise highway overpasses it really creates a great wind break. My boat's stern is about 50' below Montauk Highway. Worst we get is leaves. Blows right over the top. Shinnecock Marina is a bit more exposed. Winds would be whipping from the east so the water in the marina shouldn't be too bad.
Good luck to all!

Nothing ever happens here on LI, my guess, we get a little rain, nothing more!!
