Irene Speeding Toward East Coast

Irene is officially one for the record books on the Rondout at 26.82 feet in Rosendale...

Dan, thanks for taking the photos. I think she is listing because my bow rope is a little too tight for a record breaking flood :( Oh well, who planned on that..... I dont think there are any problems so long as a through hull doesnt get dragged under water and give way - that would suck. But there isnt anything I can do about it except pray at this juncture. Gosh, Route 213 looks like a total mess too. Its amazing that we've had three really bad floods in the past 8 years up there.

Even though we could easily swim to the RYB all the roads were impassable!

Dan... thanks for the on-site reporting! we all appreciate it. i was told that that Cruisers boat (taken from pic # 26) had broken loose and the guy had to be rescued (again, this is hear say so i cant corroborate). I also heard that some docks at the Kingston Power boat broke and boats are pushing up agains one another from the same guy who told me about that cruisers. I am hoping he is mistaken. I was also told that my small boat (the 18'er) and my Avon are safe. Phew! Hoping the docks will last the night so the water level will receed a bit. I did try to make it up there. I got stopped in Cornwall where the bridge was out. I tried ever pile of crap back road and everything was blocked. so 2 1/2 hours later i got home to Jersey. what a Charlie Fox. Keep us posted my friend.... lets pray for everyone and their belongings as well.

Amen to that, Bro! What a crazy event. I'll be up there in early AM..

Now to add insult to injury the wind is blowing harder than it did all night here in Mahopac ! My son commented that its like a blow dryer now LOL...

We're all really happy to see that RYB and the other marinas on the creek survived in good form. I have not heard from Catskill or Saugerties yet and hopefully they did well. Normally they take it a bit harder on the chin up there.

I walked your dock and all is fine.

Boats at Liberty Landing came out of this just fine.

Marina is intact for the most part, water did not rise up over the bulkhead.

That was a close one.

Just got back from RYB. Power is back on but not turned on by choice. Some docks have it, however. I waded waist deep to E dock which is holding it's own. Jim and Jeff working at securing F dock, which had some interesting looking twists to it. Many boaters stranded in their boats -- those who didn't want to get wet. I saw two unmanned sailboats go downstream, a nut job in a 40 footer speeding off to the Hudson, many trees, someone reported seeing a car floating by, a jet skier, etc. Really strong current. Spoke with a couple of boaters about tonight's high tide which will be historic. Some afterwards elected to find a hotel room. High tide this afternoon brought some of the docks within 2' of the top of the pilings, according to those there.

Getting down into Connelly wasn't too difficult and I drove the Corolla. I came through Rosendale and have never seen such a volume of water -- even a wet, rainy spring melt. Those levels are, of course, irrelevant as now there are boats and boaters on the water. If there are boats and docks there in the morning, I'll be truly impressed. Torque is s force to reckon with.

Thx Dave. You may want to consider one of those docks for next season. I've got great neighbors and I'm in 12 ft at low tide.

Here's hoping that tonight's high tide on the Rondout won't be so bad.... Creek level is receding upstream, and wind is westerly which should allow River to drain unencumbered by storm surge. In past such events the second high tide has usually been no worse than the first.

It could be wishful thinking but I'm hopeful everyone will be allright tonight after getting through the historic crest this afternoon....

Everyone is in my prayers tonight....

Thanks Judy - will be coming up tomorrow and seeing where to go . . . we may not have electricity at Englewood. I was typing this at around 4 this afternoon when BAM lights went out for the final last time. PSE&G's message said they would need a week to put things back together! Power just came back on!

Catskill Marina is gone. All docks, all boats save one 50 footer on the gas dock as of three hours ago. Condos flooded. Creek running at 30 kts or better. Just devastating.

Just took a quick look outside and it seems good at RYB. Will now more after I get dressed and walk around in an hour or so.

Still a lot of current and water but less than last night.

Poor Dolores and Jack..... :( What a shame. Lots of insurance claims AGAIN... this happened when Floyd hit if i recall correctly.

Local paper says two people died in Westchester due to hurricane. Here is a photo of one of them...these folks thought it was cool to raft the Croton River. Sadly, one of them didn't make it. Three firefighters also had to be rescued when their boat overturned...rumor has it they were pinned against the trestle bridge at the Croton Harmon Station.

I live not too far from the river, there were helicopters and many vehicles screaming around town trying to save these guys.

RYB is still ok but groaning. Docks were quite noisey but holding.

Indeed Catskill is gone. River view for all intents and purposes is as well. Hop-O-Nose is banged up really bad. It has a boat jammed in the travel lift and is bent. They must have triede a late haul. Saugerties looks worn but much like the Rondout marinas.
