Irene Speeding Toward East Coast

A nice 50' trawler just came into Haverstraw today from the Kingston City docks. They were up there during the storm and left this morning to come here. So, while I didn't ask them directly about damage, the city docks may be fine. They did say that the river was very packed with flotsam around Hyde Park, the bend at West Point, and right around the Bear Mountain Bridge.

The City docks are much more protected than any of the others. When I walked over the bridge I did not see anything significant. But give a call to see if power and water are available. Kingston is still struggling with power.
Ship to Shore was open this afternoon when we drove by.

Just wlked past city docks. They look fine. Saw some lights on so i assume some areas of the docks have power. I am at hideaway marina which is further west. To the best of my knowledge they just got power back this morning ((tue). SAvonas (sp?) delivered pizza so thnx for the recommendation.

Stopped by again today as the tide was on the rise. RYB was plowing the mud, fixing docks, tearing out carpeting out of the office. Things seemed pretty normal except for the slop and the muddy pool. Electric not on. Saw that same eagle who's nesting near the water below the condos.

Though the docks don't look pretty, kudos should go out to Jim, Jeff and the rest of the RYB staff there who held the docks together the last 72 hours. There was a lot of stress placed on the docks, but at the end of the day, no boats were lost nor was anyone injured. It was a wild ride by all accounts Sat night into Sunday and then with Monday's current. But boats remained tied to their cleats (and anything else). Sure there will be complaints about a few things (those with campers creekside particularly) but given the circumstances, a generally unpredicted flood of historic proportions, it's pretty miraculous that no dockside boats went for a walkabout down the Hudson.
