My new boat is on its way!

It will be almost a year since I first decided to do the upgrade. Learned lots through the process, sea trialed a number of boats (all large express cruisers) and visited a few factories in Europe.

I regret though, despite sub-leasing my slip in Sausalito out for the last few months, I won't be keeping it in the Bay Area for awhile. The tax savings to keep it out of CA even for a year is worth the effort. The upside is it will encourage more serious cruising in more scenic areas, and where there is scuba diving as well. First stop is Ensenada for a few months, then Cabo San Lucas and perhaps points south.

So how do I post a picture? The "Insert a File" link just opens a blank pop-up.

See now you have me in suspense!!!! Are ya gonna tell us the make and model or make us wait?

OK, I figured it out...

Here's a pic.

Sweet boat! I have to confess, I haven't the slighest idea what it is, though.

That's quite a boat!!! She's beautiful, hope you and the family really enjoy her. Yzer its an 62' Azimut (I cheated and looked at his profile)

Yes, it is an Azimut 62S. The particular model has apparently done quite well since its launch, last year in Europe and this year in the US. The hull, a deep V, is resin infused and vacuum bagged. Motors are Cat C18s.

A couple of more pics...

I ordered it without any marine electronics since I wanted to add them here. The default for me is Raymarine. Any suggestions?

How do you troll for stipers in that thing or maybe more correct for this boat as one poster said a few years ago he was going to troll for "strippers" Great piece of machinery.

DBH

That law which keeps the boat out of the state to avoid paying sales tax is sooooo stupid! This also means that you will add your electronics while it is out of state, so vendors in California will miss out on this piece of biz as well as CA losing the sales tax on those items. This law needs to be changed!

My rant is not against those who take advantage of the loop hole. My rant is against the state law which drives revenues away from the state. Maybe Arnold will fix this one, too.

Actually, I will add electronics before officially accepting delivery so CA vendors can still benefit.

However, CA vendors are not necessarily the cheapest. You can get nearly everything online at very good prices and pay no sales tax too. Even with shipping there can be a substantial savings. I am asking a couple of vendors to bid on the electronics and I am including the "street prices" I have found through froogle in the bid package.

That said, I will pay a small premium to work with a CA vendor since I see value in a one-stop shop and service.

I hope you are giving BoatFix a chance to price your electronics as well as a local electronics shop like Johnson Hicks in Santa Cruz and Sausalito. They do excellent work and really back their products and installation.

Dave, those are good recommendations. Thanks! Regarding online, I probably would indeed just source it all from BoatFix. Candidly I am hoping that a local vendor can come close so that I can use a local vendor.

Thanks everyone for your support. I was hesitant to post anything but in the end, I felt that I would want to hear about other people's purchases, regardless of style, make, model etc.

Well, goplay, we are all just green with envy! [:-bonc01] But we can handle it ..........maybe this group should have a raft up with your Azimut in about a year. We can all tramp [:-drunk] through, ooohing and aaahing at it all! [:-bigeyes] [:-bigeyes] [:-bigeyes]

That's a great idea! Seriously, I was planning a trip up the delta (orginally this summer, but alas it will have to be 2008) and have a friend bring my ski boat as well. Giant raft up! Maybe someone will make a TV episode! [:-slaphappy]

I'll keep my eyes out for the invitation sometime in 2008 then!

In case you are interested... just arrived in Long Beach.
