Over dinner tonight she hits me with "maybe we should look for a little weekend house upstate".
"The boat seems like it is so much work and we can only use it in the summer".
Not a snowball's chance in he!!.
I can barely tolerate keeping up with the house I have, and certainly don't need another one.
I can see it now: It would be just like home.
We would get out of the car and I would be busy fixing and maintaining things until it was time for me to drive them all home to Long Island in bumper to bumper traffic while they all sleep in the car. Only waking up long enough to complain about how long it's taking to get home.
I told her it must be nice having someone like me. All they have to do is report what isn't working, is making a funny noise, needs to be painted, needs to be fixed, etc., and then someone magically takes care of it while everyone else goes about their business.
Sort of like when we come back to the dock after a day on the boat. They all sit in the car while I wash down the boat, put everything away, etc.. Then they get annoyed because it's taking me too long.
I had to put a new rule in to effect about a month ago. Nobody is allowed to get in the car until I do. They can sit at the dock, twiddle their thumbs, or jump in the canal for all I care. Just don't sit in the car waiting for me to finish so I can drive them home.
Amazingly they somehow figured out that it goes quicker if they pitch in. They complain so much about it that it's almost not worth listening to them, but at least they are doing something.
