Lindenhurst or Amityville Cut

It's been awhile since I'vr traveled the State Channel. Next weekend we'll be heading to Zachs Bay for the Air Show from the east and am wondering if I should head south from the GSB to the State Channel through the Babylon or Lindenhurst Cut, or something else? Once I get to Zachs Bay should I enter from the east or west side?
 
The Amityville Cut would be a little faster, and would be my first choice, since you can stay on plane until you get to it. If you take the Lindy Cut there are a few 5MPH zones between there and the Amityville Cut down in the state channel.
 
I have heard the Amity Cut has some serious low spots. When I made the trip with my Viking I took the Babylon Cut (the first one after the causeway) south to the state channel.
 
I haven't been through the Amityville cut in years, when I did the water on the bay side was normally pretty shallow. The Lindenhurst cut isn't bad, but The Babylon cut has the deepest water and is marked the best.
 
I take amityville cut. Once in stay on plane and down the center. It is fine. You avoid a lot of 5 mph zones.
It's low where north channel intersects so stay on plane turning in. If you see other boats try to gauge speed so you don't have to come off plane.
If it is dead low then do lindy cut.
 
Cant always stay down the center of the amityville cut. That makes it pretty hard to get through.

I will run the amityville cut with my small boat, but not the searay. No way jose

That's the problem area, on the north side. Once you're in the cut itself it's fine but getting there is the hard part. I don't know if it's still the same but there used to be a pretty long stretch there with no buoys and it was hard to judge. I think staying on plane in a shallow, unfamiliar area is dangerous advice when talking about a fairly large inboard boat.
 
True. I also have a cookie path there. I usually stay in north channel and swing wide due south once lined up with amity cut
Do the lindy cut and be safe. It's fine.
 
Haven't been to Zach's in awhile but if I remember correctly you'll need to enter the west entrance, NOT the east.
 
was out on saturday tried to go throuth amity cut from north channel hit bottom turned backand went through lindy cut.
 
from north channel turned south into the cut as soon as i made my turn hit bottom went through last year plenty of times never a problem.
 
what size boats do you guys run? I have a couple of friends with 35ft or bigger boats that run Amity Cut every week. If you take the North channel and turn directly into the Cut running south you will be fine. I know that it gets tight just as you pass the island on the left but it's a straight run up to State Channel. If you come from out east go south at Babylon but the Lindy or Amity are fine.
I've seen big boats stir up mud but that's not running aground.
I just checked low tide is at 9:18am at Amityville so if you come that way watch what time it is.

Not really sure where you were and I am not telling anyone that Amity doesn't have low spots near north end, but most common mistake I see is people turning south and leaving north channel to get into amity cut. North channel is wide there. So i hug north side of the north channel and turn into amity cut, never leaving the north channel.

But to each his own. I ran thru last year a couple times with no issues.
Have not been this year.
 
well try it this year and let me know how you make out i have been through the cut last year without any issue several times.
 
Brain, Take the Babylon cut ! Deep water well marked Less aholes!

Thanks, all. I think it'll be the Babylon cut, just to be safe (and to avoid the aholes, thanks Rob). I'll be going under the RM Bridge around 8:30 a.m., too close to low tide to mess with.

A bigger issue will be Zachs bay! Place is a zoo.

I come from Massapequa a lot and stay in the channel the runs east/west at the north end of the bay that intersects with the Amity cut. If you stay within that channel and cut hard into the cut, you will be fine. I stay up on plane, never had an issue at high or low tide. I had a little 17' with an i/o, and I think we would wait 3 green markers going north, before turning east. Was buoy 15 or something. Anything further south and you will be in trouble.
