Lindenhurst unreal amount of water over bulk heads

I measured the water marks on one of my walls downstairs tonight at my house (in Lindenhurst). The water was 30" deeper then Irene or Gloria which were previously the highest tides anyone around here has ever seen.

My boat is fine, rode out the storm with no problems, I had 4 lines tied across the canal keeping the boat off the dock (in addition to the 11 keeping it tied to my dock). First floor of my house is a mess but luckily it was raised up many years ago and the main living spaces are on the second and third floors. Still a big mess and a lot will need to be replaced. I have not been out of my yard since the storm started but except for one boat partially pushed up onto Shore road, the boats on my canal that I can see seem to have fared well.

I spent a few hours over each of the past two days doing cleanup. Got the shed righted and the debris put out to the curb. Most the sheds contents are in the trash heap, whatever can be sal aced was transported home for cleanup. Everything had a coating of oil on it along with the usual muck. Inscrubbed out the interior of the shed with Simple Green and I think it can be salvaged. I got aboard the boat to adjust the lines and check it out. One side panel in the cockpit got pulled off but was still in the cockpit so it can be fixed. One broken vent cover was the only other damage I could find.
I wouldn't dare try to move it with all the debris in the water. I also didn't see any boats moving around in the bay in all the time I was down there.
The streets are covered with an oil coated sludge. There is an oil film in the canal too.
It's going to take a long time for the water to get clean again.
The town should try to clean the streets before the next rain washes even more oil in to the canals and bay.
Wish I could get power back. Reading threads and posting from this phone is a PIA!
