Is the River usable this weekend? I would love to get away from the dock. I tried last week with the Jetski and that didn't go so well.

I took the Hudson Line train into the city today (daily commute) and there was plenty of water and it looked very wet. I didn't see any road blocks or constuction vehicles in the middle of the river so I assume it is open.

It was wide open on Wednesday. Nice hot day, not too much debris floating in NY Harbor.

The Rondout has settled down and there is no obvious debris. The CG was up here repositioning all the markers that were pushed around.

Still brown. We are going to head out, but only at idle speed. Seems like less crap in the water than last weekend.

The current seems to still be overtaking the tide's surface movement as of this afternoon on the Rondout. Saw a sailboat's footstep float by. Far less junk than previous weeks. The color of the water goes from steely blue-ish to brown at the lighthouse. I heard there's a submerged mooring can just east of the suspension bridge and can be seen at low tide but not high. It's pretty center of the creek. It worked itself loose from the sailboat mooring area. I can't confirm it but someone out today saw it. Watch your prop, skipper.

Beyond that, happy boating! A beautiful weekend ahead.

On the river and it looks pretty clear. Water is still redish brown. In Haverstraw bay.

Stoped up at marina on friday didn't seem to be alot of stuff in the river. We all went out on waverunners last weekend, not to bad once you got out in the channel. We all took a ride to croton with all the kids, a good time

When I got to the boat yesterday I found a dead deer floating next to it. We lassooed it and towed it out to the middle of the river and cut the line. Keep your eyes out for it!

Traveled the Hudson between Hudson and the Western Sound today. Really no more challenging than an average spring day other than the more limited visibility of debris because of the color of the water (although it was a positive sign that I was able to see my underwater lights for the first time last night). Realizing the debris fields are floating, my most significant encounters were by Poughkeepsie, Marlboro and West Point. Those areas required slow transit. But a sharp lookout yielded an incident-free ride on a morning/midday when the river had otherwise perfect conditions. The Harlem was also not unusually loaded with debris. I saw nothing on the Sound.
Things are indeed looking up.

My kids found a washed up pig at the beach area in the marina last week. Guess what SPBM server for the annual party last night?

Holy crap........what kind of waters do you guys boat in ???? Maybe keep an eye out for Jimmy Hoffa's body too !!! :)

Hey.......that's my line. Just got back. Went to Bannermans Island and back. The river was 100% better then last week. Still some wood to deal with but not so bad. More like early spring.

We looked down the creek today and the river was certainly more brown than the Rondout Creek. Perhaps this is a sign of things to come down stream.

Walked across the new pedestrian bridge at Poughkeepsie today and while the river is still a nice shade of brown, I did not see anything floating in the river except for a light weed line well out of the channel near the shore line. There were very few pleasure boats that passed under the bridge while we walked over and back to the Highland side.
