Marina near West Park, Ny

Ok at 8 Knots, if I were to leave LL at 1:07 on 7/2, it would take 10 hours 51 minutes. If I left LL at 7:17 PM 8:38 which is quite a bit different. Moving the speed up to 23K the best departure time is 9:20 PM, and it only takes 3:15. But if you leave at 4:17 you lose about 20 minutes. Like I said the faster you go the less it matters. At 9:00 AM it takes 3:19.

I seem to recall max current was an hour after high tide. I sent a screen print of the output along via FB.

Dave, Brad an I made a trip up the Hudson a few years ago in the fall. On the way up we stopped in Tarry town. The guys on HRCC will be able to give you more information. The food at the restaurant was good and it was a nice place.

We have been up to round out before. We stopped at liberty landing on the way there and haverstraw on the way home.
Will see.
Thanks.

Incoming tide flows up river, outgoing flows down river

Tarrytown's restaurant, Striped Bass has been closed since Sandy.
You can walk south a bit to Washington Irving's Sunset Cove.

I too recommend Haverstraw. If you want to anchor out, Croton Point is a nice stop. And if you have a dinghy, you can use the guest docks at my boat club to get a nice meal. Sorry, we don't take transients and don't handle boats over 35'.

Still planning this. I know it's late.
On way home from roundout we want to go somewhere we haven't been.
Thinking Chelsea piers
Also thinking of coming south thru the east river. What is that like?
Any marinas over there worth checking out?
What about Coney Island? Any marinas there that you go to park?

A marina neighbor kept his boat at Chelsea last year and said he would never do it again. He literally broke a couple heavy duty rubber snubbers that he used to help take the strain off his cleats amd lines. Does not sound like a comfortable place to sleep on boat.

Are you going to stop at Haverstraw? If you do you will likely be at the end of my dock. I'm also heading to Kingston on the 3rd they will have Fireworks on the 4th. What day are you heading up the River? There are fireworks on the 2nd most of us will be rafted up in Bowline for the night, you are welcome to join us.

If we do this, the plan so far is this:

7/2 - Depart LI - Arrive HaverStraw (we can raft in Bowline after we check-in)
7/3 - Depart HS - Arrive Roundout
7/5 - Depart RYO - Arrive ???????

It is the marina on the home trip I need some help with?

Rumor has it that the Harlem River / East River have people that deliver Kennedy Fried Chicken boxes from the bridges. If you are going to Long Island Sound it is a faster way and lends itself to a stop in Manhasset Bay. Otherwise, no useful purpose unless you want to go to the South Shore and check out the other side of Manhattan. Once you get down by Roosevelt Island the view is great. Look out for the S.I. and other Ferries. Don't get close there are regs since 9/11.

The only marina you will be comfortable at is Liberty Landing. Read active captain reviews of Chelsea and Surfside 3.

Not worth going through East River, lots of no wake zones, and can get very rough at the lower end.

I think Liberty Landing is the only protected marina down by Manhattan.

Anyone ever stay at Marine Basin Marina by Coney Island?

Are there any other decent marina's in the Haverstraw area?

Just want to go to some different places.

All other Marinas in the area have very low water so at low tide you can't get in or out of them.

That's a tough call. We used to go to Tarrytown but the restaurant closed up because of the hurricane/storms as Chris pointed out.

Not alot to do on the river that I haven't already done.
May save the fuel for a trip to Newport or Martha's Vineyard!

I hate to say it because we love the Rondout. It's a hub for boating activity on the Hudson. But I am thinking M.V. is a better choice for a boat trip if you are on L.I.. They just don't have much North of Haverstraw for larger boats.

Over in the Bahamas we have talked to a gang of people that have "Done the Loop" and the consensus is that the Hudson is the sweet spot of the loop with all of the scenery and small towns to stop in.
We may yet bring the boat back North due to family obligations (look out Bowline) but that is all up in the air.

Dave if you are only spending one night in Haverstraw on the 2nd most of us wont be there we will be in Bowline overnight unless the weather sucks then we will all be at the dock. On the 3rd I know of three boats heading up to Kingston not counting you. So I guess I will see you there.

What's it like staying overnight in bowline?
Guess we could do that the first night and then head up then stay in haverstraw on way down.
My issue is the dog. I would need to get him to shore to go to bathroom.

Bowline is very calm. If u have a dink, it's very easy to walk dogs. If u have not been into there before, please speak to one of us first or have the number of Seatow readily available. It's super easy once u know where the rock wall is but if not, u will fall victim. Y

Newport Yacht Club looks like a nice stop. There is a restaurant on premises, and a large mall across the street. There is also a ferry to NYC if you are so inclined.

Looks like I will be going up to RYB on the 4th with as many as 5 other boats from CYC.
