Marine Sanitation Hose To PVC...

I boat on the boarder one Bay is an NDZ and across the marsh and South treated waste can be discharged. There is no way for me to discharge untreated waste. The only way it can be removed is a pumpout station or pumpout boat. Otherwise I use the PuraSan and Hold-N-Treat system when I can legally discharge treated waste or when 3 miles offshore it still gets treated before discharging.

I am in awe of the many who advise pump outs! I dock my boat in Fairhaven, MA. There must be hundreds of pleasure boats of all kind in the harbor. The town does offer free pump outs....with a reservation, only on Saturday & Sunday mornings and no holidays! And everybody beats their chests championing the virtues of environmental compliance. Yeah, right!

Then there is a "Save the Bay" pump out boat that I often see over at Cuttyhunk Island, and island aboiut 10-12 miles from anywhere public. I doubt that boat holds 100 gallons although others may chime in with better knowledge. So if this thing pumps out two boats similar to mine which has a 40 gallon poop tank, the savior now needs to truck back to the main land---10-12 miles, pump his poop and return in a boat that most likely burns over 60 gallons of fuel round trip. Does this make any sense at all???

Government needs public support to obey laws. Do-gooders can pound their chests and feel great each time the successfully lobby for another NDZ. Make it difficult and compliance will be spotty. Crazy!

Well we spend more time on our boat usually from early March through mid December. In our area there are 2 pumpout boats and few working marinas to pumpout waste. Last weekend we tried from Friday through Monday to get ahold of the pumpout boats as did other's there was simply never a response. I wonder what the other boats did that were also calling? If your going to have an area that has been a NDZ for over a decade you would think there would be enough (WORKING) pumpout locations or boats this is not the case where I am located. It seems like the pumpout boats leave at 10AM and are done by 2PM however this is not what the county website says it's simply the reality. The pumpout boats are only operational from May 15th through October 15th. There are thousands of boats on the water before and after both dates.

Just looked at this thread for the first time. A couple of comments.

First, I'm a little surprised at the need for the project to begin with. Permeation shouldn't be an issue with a fresh water Vacu Flush head. Is this a salt water application? perhaps there were some sags in the hose or it was just cheap hose.

As per Vic, all sanihoses will eventually permeate. Sh!t happens and even though mine is a fresh water vaccu flush and we do run lots of water we are not live aboards, and only use the boat 9 months a year due to winters soooo... stuff will sit at times and yup, there are sags in long runs of hose from the manufacturer.

As for supports, the system is very well supported and shows no signs of issues after my last inspection. Seems I did a great job if I don't say so myself. :) (knocking on wood!)

Converting to PVC my not be for every boat but in my case it was difficult but doable and is worth every bump, bruise, cut and pain it caused me! I'd do it again in a heart beat but now I don't have to.

John, sounds like you did a good job! Don't take all the postings on Raritan's Marine Elegance as an indictment of the VacuFlush system. Not so!

The Marine Elegance does just as good a job as a VacuFlush (in my opinion, having used both) - but it's a whole lot cheaper. However, the VacuFlush system works just fine in most applications, and remains very popular.

One of the big things VacuFlush has going for it is name recognition - sort of like "Kleenex" or "Frigidaire." You'd be amazed at how many people come to the Raritan booth at Boat Shows, asking if what Raritan has on display is a VacuFlush? We then had to tell them, "No, it's our answer to the VacuFlush, and it's a lot less expensive."

Again, unless the there is something really wrong with the installation, and it is not flushed correctly, there is no reason for anything to ever "sit" in a VF system but fresh water.

Got it... Ever have to "clean the bowel"? Like I said, spit happens!

George not so in my situation but I think my wife has a unique medical condition. My VF installation was certified and new. It worked great for me or anyone else. Lets just say I couldn't take a plastic knife and chop up the bowls contents after my wife uses the head. However it shows that the chopper blade assembly in the ME could probably be used to get rid of small tree branchs from your yard. I would be suprised if it couldn't eat a real pile of golfballs.
I haven't had to touch a set of duckbills in 4 plus years either.

Vic--

Most of my plumbing is PVC pipe except for the ME where I used about 24 " of the white hose sold by West Marine. And now both heads on my boat are fresh water flushes.

How does raw salt water differ from fresh regarding permeate in the hose? Is there a difference?

Thanks-
