Montauk...where's good to stay?

You a suffolk resident?
Ever try shinnecock.
How about Treasure Cove?
Kids can walk to aquarium.
Greenport?
Plenty of places.
I have stayed at MYC, and it is nice, but heck, that is alot of money for dockage!

Linda and I have been the Montauk YC many times, and the price is way up there to the point that some may not want to spend. But overall, we have never been let down. When we go to Atlantique, Sailors Haven, and Watch Hill, they may be trips on a weekend or vacation, but I feel the MYC is a real acation destination. If viewed that way we don’t mind the extras like resort fees etc. Just IMHO…

As for Watch Hill, we just got back today from a Monday to Wednesday getaway. Very few bugs, in fact did the nature trail at sundown. I did douse us with Deep Woods OFF, but it worked fine.

Woke up smelling of OFF but no bites. I love the smell of napalm (OFF) in the morning. LOL

I agree with the crowd. We've stayed at both MYC and Star Island. Montauk is better for a "vacation" experience. Star has a pool and an excellent ships store. Both have very good dock help. Montauk has fixed docks and Star has floating.

We would stay at MYC and have breakfast and snacks at Star. Dinner was elsewhere. Star can be noisy in the AM with fishing boats leaving. Best of both since they are across the road from each other.

Maybe 6 years ago, we decided not to go back to any of the places on L.I.. The dockage was insane, and the restaurants were not all that great for the money they charged. So we started going to N.J. instead. We were much happier with the area. Montauk had places to dine, but they all did a hap-hazard attempt at quality. Going to Redbank N.J. always yielded better results.
The Jersey shore always seemed to offer more because the audience was as captive.

I have to agree with Dave. Save your cash, bring food and booze, and hang out at Watch Hill. Been there done that, and would do it again if we were still up North.

No question, the east end of LI is expensive, but for us, summer just ain't complete without a trip to Block. There are a ton of places to go, and plenty of places to anchor if you want to save money. If you know the right restaurants, you can get fantastic meals.

For us, NJ offers a lot less, only a couple of places to go, and the decent ones are an hour up a no wake zone.

It's all what you are looking for and what you can afford.

Took a trip out to MTK this weekend by car. Strapped the bikes to the back and checked out a few of the local spots. Montauk Yacht Club was real nice. Some beautiful boats there, and the grounds were nice. Spa, tennis courts, pool etc.

They charge $5.50/ft a night and dockmaster recommended reservations for holiday weekends.

AND?

We all could have told you this! Do you plan to make a reservation? I have been going there for about 30 years I have always enjoyed my visits! Yes I know it's not cheap but it's Montauk what do you expect:)

I made a reservations the night before I called for two boats and had no problem and they had a bunch of open slips. This said he did say if it was a Holiday weekend you need to call ahead for a reservation.

While it does cost you a bit of diesel to get there, Atlantis (Bahamas) is well under that rate and you get a full blown water park, aquarium, beach and great restaurants. :D

Marina was pretty full - holds over 200 boats, and there were slips available.

Heard the same thing as Audrey...must make a reservation in advance for holiday weekends.

We were there in early July and the place was full.

We were there the same time. Where we're you? Lol
Reservation needed for 4th of July weekend. MYC has my vote as one of the best!

I went to Greenport this year instead of Montaulk to try something different. After one night I left and went to Montauk I just like it better, I was not happy in Greenport bad experience.
