The NPS provided us with updates regarding the planned Watch Hill Projects. FOWH would like to share this information with you, our members. Of course, the NPS will continue to keep us updated of the status of the Watch Hill Projects along with their other partners. We will keep you informed of their communications on an on-going basis. Rest assured, the projects will not start until after Columbus Day weekend.

Watch Hill Project Updates - NPS
The dredging of the Watch Hill Channel and marina has been put out for bid solicitation by the US Army Corp of Engineers. The project is expected to be awarded and completed between October 1-December 15, 2014.
There may be the possibility of closures to vessel traffic due to the dredging operation. It is not expected that the project will start until after Columbus Day weekend.
The Watch Hill marina rehabilitation project originally consisted of; replacing the entire electrical system in the marina to include new conduit, wiring, pedestals and lighting as well as a slightly larger and elevated electric panel building. Additionally, the entire boardwalk surface around the marina will be removed to allow for adding structural timbers and fasteners. New composite decking will be secured to the substructure upon completion of the electric and framing improvements. The retaining wall around the perimeter of the marina will also be replaced.
As a result of post storm bulkhead failures in May 2014 a new evaluation took place to look more closely at the bulkhead framing. It has been determined that in order to safeguard the already approved improvements a new bulkhead will need to be funded and installed as part of the project. This new finding has delayed the Watch Hill marina rehabilitation project as the NPS moves forward to secure additional compliance and funding.
The total time that will be required to accommodate the marina rehabilitation project is unknown at this point but will be significant. It is likely that the marina will be closed for an unknown portion of time during the usual boating season to allow for the project to be safely completed. We hesitate to ponder a guess as the timetable is unknown.
The National Park Service is working diligently behind the scenes to secure the funding to allow this project to be completed in a timely manner. We will continue to work collaboratively with our park partners at Watch Hill to keep them informed of information as it becomes available.
