I am sure he is not happy they won't move the poles, the place has alway been light for slipspace for larger boats, while in the meantime, many smaller slips are always vacant.

I didn't get the feeling the concessionaire had an opinion on anything. Friends of watch hill showed a lot of emotion. Concessionaire pretty much just rolled over.

I went to Watch today, wanted to see if any work has started. Nothing has been done. The only work is plastic bags on the electric towers and picnic tables upside down.
 
They sent out an email today the dredging has begun.

Dredging to Begin at Sailors Haven and Watch Hill on Fire Island

Fire Island, New York – A dredging project to maintain safe, public access to the marina and docking facilities at Sailors Haven and Watch Hill on Fire Island is scheduled to begin next week.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and multiple storm events in 2012 sediment accumulated in the Sailors Haven and Watch Hill navigation channels and marinas. In 2013 an environmental assessment to dredge this material and restore navigation channels to a width of 100 feet and depth of six feet at mean low tide was completed.

Earlier this year a $2.9 million contract was awarded to H&L Contracting of Bay Shore, New York. The project is funded through Hurricane Sandy disaster relief aid.

“We are happy this work is underway,” said Fire Island National Seashore Superintendent Chris Soller, “and to be able to continue to provide safe access to these facilities.”

At Sailors Haven approximately 2,370 cubic yards of sediment from the dredged channel will be placed on the bay beach to the east and west of the marina. This material will help protect the Sunken Forest from accelerated rates of erosion. More than 49,000 cubic yards of sediment dredged from the Watch Hill channel will be deposited along the ocean front on the east end of Davis Park.

The project is slated for completion by January 15, 2015.
 
I know so little of Watch Hill, I thought you were talking of R.I.

That said, I would think if Sandy was to your area what 1938 was to R.I. Some damage assessment would have to be done to the electrical systems for safety sake. The same can be said for piling security.

It sounds very political to an outsider.
 
I took a ride to Watch Hill today and was able to see the dredging crew, in action. There was a big barge in the ferry lane and 3 other barges inside. Two big barges were in f/o E land and a smaller one was tied to C/D. I then went to Sailor's but nothing was going on. It seems that Watch is first on the list.
 
Funny. We were told Sailors would be first. That made zero sense as Watch Hill holds 2x the boats. ( aprox )

So i m glad watch hill was dredged first.... now lets see about the rest of the work.

FOWH contacted the National Park Service (NPS) for a status update on Watch Hill for 2015. The NPS informed us that Watch Hill will be open for the entire 2015 Season; May through October including Columbus Day Weekend. The NPS also said the plan to rebuild Watch Hill remains in place but will not be done during the 2015 season.

FOWH wishes you the very best for 2015 and looks forward to the upcoming season at Watch Hill.
 
I saw that this morning. I'm curious when they are going to do the work because I thought they had to spend the money by end of 2015, but either way glad to hear it will be open this season!
 
I thought they said dock was unsafe and it had to be done. Lies.
 
I can see more of the bulkheads collapsing after the dredging has been done
