States are starting to collect Sales/Use Tax on eCommerce orders. That won't level the selling price playing field, but it'll bring the two several % points closer. If you can anticipate at all, online sure saves money. I ordered a part late Sunday night. It left the seller in the wee hours of Monday morning, 0300-something, and arrived Wednesday afternoon. $106 no tax free shipping vs. $148 and 7% tax. It's easy to see why people do it.

That's usually my first stop for things I'm going to buy locally. Prices are better than WM, and you'd be surprised at what they have in stock.
 
There was a place on Montauk Highway on the border of Massapequa/Seaford that had good inventory. I think it's called South Shore Marine. Don't know if he still has the place, it's next to Blue Marlin Boat
 
They are still around and do a great job. Always helpful and busy during the season. Open now and I see traffic on the weekends.

After Sandy, the store was ruined, but he was still open. I needed a hose clamp, no one else had it. We were talking and he said please just take it. wouldnt take money, I said no way. Gave him the money and told him not to worry about the change. Super nice people in that store, and very knowledgeable.

The only downside...limited parking..
 
So what you are saying is you tipped him too:) Do you need an alarm or maybe some cameras for your house:)

Its funny, Ive been looking for wireless cameras for the little boat. Depending on where I keep her this summer..
 
Fred Chall and Freeport Marine get most of my local business with WM the third option. FC is literally in the parking lot outside my marina so you can't get more convenient to the boat than that.

On line is the way to go for price and convenience when not in a rush.

FYI Fred Chall annual sale continues this weekend.
 
Sorry to hear South Shore store got ruined. I know Angelo personally and you're right.....great guy, knowledgeable and helpful. Did he get much damage to the marina or boats there?
 
Dave, you're a genius. BTW, I may have a few if you haven't found them yet. With all respect to everyone here, does anyone have a boat where they're pending insurance total and may want to sell a marine faucet for the galley? Mine got a little hammered and not looking to pay "West Marine" prices.

Additionally, on another note, even though I'm not going to be in anchorage, if anyone needs help in or on their boats that have damage (and you want to re-float), just post the where and when's and I'd be glad to give you a hand. Pretty handy around a bilge.......
 
Im a freeport marine guy. Cant put a price on the knowledge of the counter guys .

Ill miss Cappy. He was a great guy and friend !
