Just be aware of the scams. If the offer sounds too good to be true it is. I got 4 inquiries on my listing and 3 were bogus.
How did you know the bogus ones? Or was it just that the people had no intention of following through on their offer. I assume there's no rating system like Ebay has. What is the advantage of Craigslist versus Ebay or boats.com???
Thought so! But part 2 of my question was to find out about the advantages. Honestly I get very intimidated by this Internet sales thing. Which is funny since I bought my last boat on eBay. But in that case the boat was nearby, and I went up to see it and felt comfortable making an offer on it. I knew I was still taking a bit of a chance but felt the risk was relatively low...
I can't understand how someone would buy say, a 33 footer sight unseen that's 500 miles away from them. IMHO the pictures you see NEVER tell a true story about the state of the boat. But I guess people do it...

The biggest advantage of CraigsList is that it is free. You can search by area if you want to buy locally or search a wide area for price comparison. I too find the idea squirrelly of someone buying a big ticket item over the internet, but I think it can be used to generate interest so that they'll come and see the boat. I do think that the very best resource for selling a large boat is www.yachtworld.com You have to be a broker to post an ad there, but there are some "internet" brokers that will place an ad for you for a low fixed fee. A friend used such a service and successfully sold his 42' aft cabin motoryacht. Unfortunately, it didn't sell very quickly, but he got his asking price.

We sold a 17' travel trailer on Craig's list a few weeks back. It had been sitting in our driveway for about 4 weeks with a for sale sign on it with only one or two inquiries. As soon as I posted on CL, we had eight or nine calls, turned down three lowball offers and sold it for fair market value in three days.
