Yup docks paid via a strange insurance claim and a pool open to any local that wanders in. I love the new biker hangout. The camp ground in the parking lot is a great feature as well!

Hogan - Of course second best. The only problem is that I can hear you guys partying at all hours of the night from across the bay and I need my beauty rest. I do have to admit, I can also smell that great food you guys are always cooking as well.

RMR- Pool is always empty - Plenty of grills for everyone - dock floats.

RN - No idea about prices but I am willing to pay more if I get more.

Welcome aboard Hank. That's great news about a new partner, the place has some potential, and maybe new management might turn the place around.

Hank I see you didn't waste anytime getting an Anchor. As I have said in the past the only issue I have with the marina is the lack of water which I don't blame management. I know my options and the only place for me to go is Haverstraw which has it's own set of pros and cons. I Love my slip and I can't replace it anywhere not even Haverstraw at $30 more per foot. So unless things change for the worse I'm not going anywhere.

Dave, I hear TB is moving to SPBM, and he's bringing his free anchor chain, although I don't know why he'd need chain for a canoe.

I laughed so hard I spilled my coffee. I would have to consider Haverstraw more seriously. What an a$$ free chain and still feels the need to bash the company and all American made products and yet toots the horn of the supplier that screwed up and false advertised in the first place.

Rommer I don't believe the upgraded docks come from an insurance claim they came first. The claim came later for A and B docks and with a little luck those docks will be replaced as well we need more larger slips D dock is packed and I'm not sure but G dock looked pretty crowded as well. Although the Winter storage is light this year things tend to fill up pretty well for the Summer. For the record I agree with Hank the marina was fairly well maintain this past summer and I had no issues with the pool or the parking lot. I did see a couple of strange people that didn't look like they belonged and I also saw someone for the office speaking to at least one of them and I never saw them there again. I've been very happy overall with the place and I'm surprised when people complain and knock the place so much. If I wasn't happy I would leave no one is keeping me there against my will.

I can't wait for Spring I have never like Winter I have always lived for the Summer even as a kid. Maybe someday I'll move south.

Still lots of room at the north end Dave for larger boats and G dock had several openings as well last year with at least one more opening up this year as a result of managements "the customer is never right policy". Besides, why spend the money for new docks if the others aren't full?

As for the pool/pavilion issues I'm just going by the many complaints I hear personally from SPBM members. You know the dozen or so that don't trust the marina to touch their boats and winter elsewhere. And what is up with the tents in the parking lot this summer? Is that really good security when young kids are running around and some unknown is overnighting in the parking lot?

Your advise is spot on thou, we were not happy there and we left. Hell we even came back a few years ago for a season to see if "the new guy would make things better" and left for the final time after being ripped off and extorted, (Facts I CAN and have backed up on this forum before so facts are facts)

SPBM still has the best physical setup overall though it will be interesting to see how much seawall is left if we have a bad winter, but IMO the other Stony Point area marinas have a much better overall experience.

Maybe we can get TB to come and do an unbiased review of the Stony Point area marinas and put this to bed once and for all! :)

One reason winter storage is light at SPBM is some people had their boat hauled to their house with the marina's hydralic trailer. They don't know if it's going in next year and if not they don't want to pay summer land storage. Reasons I heard were" My business is way down, my wife lost her job, things aren't good where I work". etc. Marina's all over have had empty slips the last few years. At the Manasquan inlet this summer there was half of the boat traffic there was 5 years ago. A lot of empty slips there also. My slip on the G dock will only be empty until the spring striper run, the beginning of april. Then I'll be back.

PBM was full last summer, the number of boats they winterized was up 60%... I guess all the people with jobs keep their boats at PBM!

SPBM has the potential to be a "resort" destination. All it will take is a dedicated on-site owner who cares about his customers and who is willing to put the time and money into doing so and who hires competent workers. (That, plus dredging...)

Could you imagine the success of SPBM if it was owned by the old PB team?

One son lives in Naples FL. His 27' boat is in a slip on the Gordon River. He pays $200.00 a month year round for a slip. Only half the slips are full. There is a marina with rack storage in Key Largo FL where we are in the winter. About one third full. It's not just here. Things are slow all over.

Rommer the North end in my opinion is in sad shape and needs a major overhauling. If they rebuild the A B and C docks the way they had discussed I think they will attract more boats to the marina. I know of a bunch of uncertain boaters from other marinas that are thinking of coming over and they are looking for a group of docks together if it happens it happens either way I have no personal negative experiences so I'm happy none of my friends have been complaining to me either maybe it's a G dock thing. (just kidding) If I was not happy I would be the first to bitch about it I have nothing to gain one way or the other.

Different stokes for different folks as long as we are all happy where we are and enjoying our boats that's what it's all about.

And for the record if I see TB around our marina I'll gladly show him how useful his free chain can be. What an a$$!! But it is fun busting on him. I miss Bob:) at least he well well intending. Even with his bizarre thoughts and concepts he was much better then this guy.

I certainly agree with you Ken, things are tough all over. As Hogan points out PBM is full with winter up, Patsy's while not full was up slipwise with bigger slips in very tight supply and winter is sold out, (hell oversold!). Miniseongo seemed to be relatively full as well.

It is interesting though that do to my health issues and choice of treatments we have moved our boat down river to Liberty Landing Marina, probably the most expensive marina on the river and they are very full. Not much in the way of amenities but fantastics views, great people, a staff that cares and always plenty of water under the boat so we come and go when we choose. Maybe it's the location that makes them successful but I think I a lot of the success is due to the way they treat the customer, in good and bad times.

Haverstraw was only 70% full and that is by their numbers so I would imagine it was even less then that. It makes sense that te bigger the marina, the harder it is to fill it up. Be that as it may, I am a skeptical as many of you on what is in the future plans for SPBM but I do know who is coming in as a partner and if happens, the possibilities are endless . The water issues affect most all the marinas in the area and the ones who do have water have their own set of issues. It's like everything else....choose your poison.

Was kayaking with my wife recently and snapped this photo. We thought it was hilarious.
Check out what it says under the PBM. "There is a difference" The sea wall is falling down all around the
sign.

You'll get no argument from me on the state of their seawall. It is a BIG issue for them and should have been corrected a few years ago. That aside we still had a much better overall experience there then at SPBM.

I can and have said MANY positives about Mike and Jim but if there is a negative it is that Mike needs to complete projects once started which doesn't always happen and get the lead out on the seawall replacement. Lots of empty promises with the last one! That said, they make improvements every year, are honorable and work very hard to make sure the customer is happy, treated fairly and safe!

Don't personally know them but heard they are great people. The Marina itself is a problem. The docks and fingers are way undersized. I paddled through and many were flipped over and quite frankly, I would not trust my kayak being tied to one.

I agree Mike and Jim are great guy's to deal with but the marina needs alot more work than SPB, the docks are small and sea wall a mess.

Technically the main docks at Pastys are a few inches wider than the main docks at SPBM. (Yup I measured them!) The problem is the short boat fingers are way to narrow and unstable. Having one of the larger boats at that marina we always got one of the Tee docks which where as wide as the main docks.

Mike is willing to build whatever people want to attract new business so if 4 or 5 people went as a group and said we need x slips together with y sized fingers he would build them over the winter for a spring launch. I still feel strongly that he needs to deal with the seawall first though.

Not many people know about it but there is an awesome snack bar at the Patsys pool. From hot dogs to steamers and wraps. Excellent prices, good portions and VERY inexpensive!

We keep our boat at an old boat yard in bad shape, but the slip rent is $200/month, elect. and water included, for a covered slip.
Also, it is just a couple blocks from the house. We see it every time we come and go from home.
It's not in great shape, no one uses their boats. But we have parts and service right there in the yard.
