New to the area

Welcome -- the best thing the captain that took us out taught us was to just keep steerageway on -- i.e., go slow. It's easy to "bump off" something than crash into it! Key point was said above -- don't get frazzled. When you feel that way (we all have), take a deep breath, a step back, reassess, then try again. It's not worth damaging people and boat! Our captain had us doing fairway 360's and touch-and go's for close to 3 hours before I felt comfortable. Hogan and the guys have a wealth of experience, so lean on them with questions -- you're in a great marina!

NBC!
I saw you Saturday with the captain...Congratulations, come on over to G dock (at the end of C dock) and say hi. My nickels worth of free advice for docking at Pennybridge is
1. Tide and wind make the rules, know which way they are going and be sure, your boat will go the same way.
2. Rig throwable lines from the cleats on the boat and be ready to throw them.
3. Extend, and have at hand, your boat hook( 2 are better than one)
4. You will crash...Slow crashes hurt less than fast crashes
5. Docking is like understanding women...good luck

Come over for a beer, or some Patron, you will never have a problem docking if you never leave!

Oh yeah! I forgot #6!
6. Fellow boaters at Pennybridge monitor channel 69 on the VHF, give a holler, and if youv'v got beer, someone will be glad to walk all the way out to D dock to give you a hand!

Welcome aboard NBCNewsGuy.

Word of advise, make sure when you visit Hogan and Caryl-d, you bring lots of beer!!!! They get very thirsty when they talk to new people....:D

Hey Mike the boat is in the water finally.

Rig fenders, too, and hopefully you have a crew member who can watch the final docking with another fender at hand to stick between the boat and a spot you didn't expect.
My suggestion - Don't approach something any faster than you'd like to hit it.
I'm a ways away, but here's a big welcome to BE and a long distance wave!

Welcome aboard!! You're in good hands here, even with those maniacs down your way. Don't forget to come on up to Kingston for a visit sometime...

Bob, I know, we talked to you out in the river on Saturday - remember, you had no beer.

and a strange name on the back of his boat!

How dare Bob go out without beer on the boat. Thats part of the HRCC package that is required before you take the maiden voyage.

Thats it, as Governor of B dock I must stop this foolish behavior so I herby declare that Bob must present each member of the board a cold beer before we allow him to join any HRCC raftup. SO LET IT BE.....

Butch's compassion and wisdom never ceases to amaze me!!!!

Fair but firm!

Welcome to D Dock. You'll have a tremendous amount of fun here at Pennybridge. What slip are you. Are you Karen Ann? A bunch of us practically live on D Dock... We are down almost everynight at some point. Parties are a given. Come on over and introduce yourselves...

Hi Black Dog - The name of my boat is called Breaking News.... I think I am in slip 10? Captain Don said I should put a back bumper on the dock for when i am backing in... What do most of you do... I bought 3 other fenders today from West Marine... Maybe I will put one at the end of the dock??

Ah Yes... My home away from home. That was my old slip since '95. I recently moved down a little ways. I will be up this evening, working. Come on up and I'll give you a hand...

not going to be there until saturday.... going out with captain don to practice docking... will you be there on Saturday?

NewsGuy, do yourself a favor and checkout boatfix. The website takes a while to get used to but the prices are phenomenal. Delivery is almost instantaneous and what you pay in delivery is offset by no taxes unless you live in New Jersey.

They are also the major sponsor of this site.

Ryan, I'll be out before sunrise fishing. Sea ya in the afternoon....
