Doubt it, Maybe it's because the thought of torching your own boat for insurance reasons is incomprehensible in Canadia....

Given this discussion how many folks thought Capt. Arts Carver sinking was an accident?

Nope...My cigarette was out when I left..

I worked on a volunteer fire dept for 12 years as a training officer in a rural community and got sick of the "local knowledge" yelling arson at every fire...

More reputations are ruined at coffee shops where "local knowledge" starts...

Well we will have to wait and see but if I were a betting man....

I will bite. I think that was not an accident and sunk to collect. Boats don't sink that easily. And whn they donut is usually at the dock.

I worked very closely with arson investigators on several high profile cases.

This one would pique my interest...

I think I saw one post regarding the notion hit and fade into deletion.

Think about it. Did he act out a role on B.E. and then all of a sudden his boat is gone??? Now he is gone also???? I don't understand?? Did I ask an inappropriate question??? Does this format fit a pattern???

Mike I am sure many would. However I have seen water make a mess out of electrical contacts. I have also seen them melt. It's not much of a leap to expect the heat would invade the engine room and ignite something along the way or within the engine room.
I'll wait. We all should.

But I'm willing to bet that no one goes down for this. If the interior was destroyed by crew, I'd expect there was a police blotter out there somewhere along with a vandalism claim.

Everyone likes to throw stones at the big guy.

Insurance fraud is easy to get away with but tough to live with!

I met Art a couple of years ago, a few month before he lost his boat, while stopping at Great Kills on the way south. He and his wife were very nice folks, gave us a tour of the boat and really seemed to like their boat. they didn't seem like the kind of folks who's do that.

I'm guessing the experience made them rethink boat ownership altogether, can't blame someone whose boat sunk from under him offshore to have cold feet about buying another boat.

I find some of the reactions above a little disturbing to say the least.

You guys really think Capt Art intentionally sank his boat? Im totally shocked..Seriously..

Pascal, so do I and that's why I brought that up. But look at it this way, whenever a crime occurs in a neighborhood there is always someone who will say, "It's not possible, I don't believe he did that". And then they learn or they are justified. Most outside the case never learn.

Here, on Boatered, we have very limited details that surround, define, or resolve these issues. We are nothing but a bunch of speculators that see no excuse for preventable disasters. We choose sides and lay blame without ever knowing the actual outcome in many cases because they are not followed by the NTSB or the Coast Guard and publicly reported.

But me??? I want to understand??? How could this happen???

All in all a pile.

Dave there are people that can live with alot of things we don't understand.

I just find it hard to believe boats burn or sink that easily. Boats spend 80% at thedock and that swhere they sink. With halon how can a boat burn. The power cord didn't burn.

how many stories have you seen of shore power cords shorting out, heating up and starting a fire? this happened in a storm, heavy rain, moisture coming in, etc... lightning is another possibily, last month a sailboat here are my marina started burning after a direct strike. Inverters short out, so do battery chargers... could be as simple as an short in an audio/video system.

as sinking, same things... who knows what happened to Art's boat. from what i recall there were some question about the number of bilge pumps and the lack of warning lights at the upper helm. again things happen... hoses fail, stuff come loose.

I just hope those who are questioning the honesty of a long time member realize they wouldn't appreciate being accused to insurace fraud without a single shred of evidence.

This happened 4 days after the storm and if you knew anything about the owner...
Just saying...

The evidence is a public forum. We can guess or sumise. We all sleep good ar night. Do they?

I am sure some do because they are just. Again, we don't know the whole deal in any of these cases therefore we have not basis with which to judge.
All speculation.

From what little I have heard I'm not sure the motivation was there. I understand the speculations it's a normal response but without the whole story I'm not going to pass judgement.
