I had heard the rumor so Sat we drove over to see if it was true, and it is. The new owners are Andy and Vina Smith and the nicest people you will ever meet. Their background is in the storage unit business and this is like a labor of love - it is a family affair. They, and a bunch of other family and friends were over there working their butts off cleaning and sorting out what's there. They want to restore it to it's old charm and not go high tech and I think they might just pull it off. It looks so much better already - they are chopping weeds, grinding up decrepid old boats, and taking dumpster after dumpster of junk away. I met several of the berthers and was surprised how good some of the sheds looked. One guy, Ace, has taken it upon himself to vaccuum the spider webs from the whold shed - it looks great! I am almost thinking I might move there - the sheds have a beautifull tree lined path on one side, a wide slough between the island and the shed, and then trees on the other side - it really is beautifull! There is not a lot of current there because the island blocks most of it, but you are right on fast water. The prices are really reasonable - but as time goes on, they will go up as the place gets better. They have a long way to go - the heads are a mess, there is no gas or pump-out, and there is still a lot of clean-up and rebuilding, but when its done, it will be a really great place - I can see it happening! They were going to move into the house on the point, but have decided to make it into a club house and later maybe a resturant or outside eatery/bar. If you haven't ever been to the house, the view is the best - 180 degrees up and down the Moke - WOW!
Anyway, Andy and Vina are from a family of really serious sailing folk, so down the line you will probably see some world class sail boats and a sea plane or two hanging around. I am going to give them this site so they can join in - they really want peoples opinions and advice and you guys (and girls) are some of the best in the Delta.
Stop and visit them - they are really nice!
