Strange thing going on regarding winterizing my
fresh water system. The yard pumped the tank as dry as possible, dumped in gallons of pink and ran thru the supply system only to have it come out crystal clear. Not even a tinge of pink.
They tested the clear water with a antifreeze hydrometer and it shows the clear liquid to be good down to - 50 degrees.
They asked if I used any special water treatment that the residual might possibly change the color of the antifreze? I did use chlorine bleach twice over the summer to freshen the tank but that was long gone.
So the question is , what could be the reason that the pink lost its color?

An in-line water filter will turn the pink clear.

Even a little residual chlorine bleach will blanch the pigment from the anti-freeze. Make sure you drain your water heater before attempting to flush the system with anti-freeze; any water in the heater tank containing chlorine bleach will take out the color.

This mystified me a few years back when I was winterizing my fresh water system after having added bleach to the tank to disinfect the water (we don't use it for drinking).

Good luck!

Gentlemen Thank you for your suggestions. I did a test , small pail with the chlorine in the bottom and then poured in the pink and it immediately lost its color , crystal clear.
Loks like I am ok as far as protection.
Now that everything is ok, how do I delete this posting, no sense continuing.

Dont delete the posting, others will learn from it, like me. Had no idea the pink could be "erased".
Good info, good thread.

Based on the positive statements that this information is valuable to others I hereby withdraw my previous request to delete the thread.
