Post Sandy trouble spots

"Was at the anchorage with Dave and Walter. A guy was using a dingy anchor to clear his slip of debris. As he would rake the bottom plumes of oil would come to the surface.... Shell fish are going to be an issue !"

Yes, that was me. Thankfully I didn't find anything large in there. It was low tide too, so I'm pretty sure this slip will be OK.

Anyone lose a tool-box ?!?

Just spoke to AYC to get a date for the dredging.
D dock was done today and they are working their way around to other areas.
I would love to see what they found!
I wonder if my picnic table, gas gril with propane tank, and dock box showed up!

Wonder is all the propane tanks missing, mine included have any risk of exploding if hit. I am guessing no explosion but a risk of shrapnel doing damage.

I wouldn't want to find out. I am sure they can explode but they will probably corrode before that and gas will just leak out.
 
Buddy brought his new boat from NJ yesterday. Came in Jones inlet and then ran down the Wantagh to BWYC . Said he didn't see anything crazy. Just some lumber.

We put the smaller boat in yesterday at Tanner and ran back and forth a little bit between there and Lindenhurst. I didn't see anything big.
 
I ran my boat from Seaford to Massapequa on sat about noon. The tide was pretty high. I did not have any problems. There was some floating wood and some Styrofoam here and there.. but that's it. I even cut across the bay in Massapequa to save some time. It was amazing to see all the destroyed houses along the way. Its going to be a long time for those people, if they even rebuild. I was glad it was pretty calm at that point in the day, so it was EZ to see floaters. There wasn't much out there. As I came up the canal in Amityville there was some fuel in the water, appeared and smelled like home heating oil.
 
Would be good idea if you locals would enter the missing buoy, shocking, know and verified obstruction in active captain This way it s all at your fingertips on the water using any of the compatible apps

Took the dinghy from bellmore to seaford saturday, felt good to atleast be out on the water. Lots of debris coming out of bellmore creek and near wantagh park

Exactly why my boat is now at the AYC.

My friend lost a chunk of of his prop going up his canal in Baldwin...and that was only like 8 houses in a 15' whaler with almost no draw. I couldn't imagine what it would be like up my old canal right now.

not going to lie i hit a piece of submerged wood in the dinghy, not sure if i messed up prop on outboard or not.
 
I am planning to move my boat from East Rockaway to Freeport later this week or the weekend. Hoping not to encounter anything ugly.
 
Ugh, I may go from launch slip to my home slip and kiss the boat goodbye for 2 weeks!
 
I went for a ride yesterday down through the Amityville cut, then east in the State Boat Channel to the Babylon Cut, headed north through there, and then back west to my canal. Didn't see anything. There is still a broken piling moving around on a 45 degree angle in the canal itself, but once outside of the canal there was no "visible" debris and I didn't have any problems.
I've been in and out of Tanner Park twice in the last couple of weeks, and no problems over there either.
